I think the next 3D mario game should build off of SM64 DS, like having multiple playable characters with different traits that are required for different objectives. Literally just build a whole new game with the same concepts/design as SM64 DS.

Odyssey sucked. Cappy is actually a dogshit mechanic because it completely trivializes platforming, and the levels are barren, boring wastelands. It was the first Mario game I ever played that made me feel like it wasn't meant for me.

It’s gonna be interesting what will happen when the kids who grew up with the switch are adults. Considering the unprecedented amount first and second party games sold on the platform, with series like pikmin, kirby, luigi’s mansion, mario kart, splatoon, zelda, etc having their highest selling entries, I’m willing to expect there will be a lot of them.

The worst thing about modern gaming is how LONG it all takes. Sequels, spin-offs, and new ips were abundant and constant. But starting from the PS4 era it's like everything takes 5 years at minimum. HD development was a mistake. Is it really a surprised zoomers became obsessed with Five Nights at Freddy's, since while we were waiting years for new games, a new Fnaf would get shat out every other month?

Nah, 3D World was awesome. A few levels were definitely made with multiplayer in mind, but it didn't detract much from the single-player experience, imo.

I was being a bit cynical, to be fair we've already had 2 HD Mario games and they released in a reasonable timeframe, so HD visuals can't be that big of a factor. This is likely only due to 3D Mario being a once per generation game, and this generation has been very long due to the success of the Switch. N64 and GC were only 5 years cycles, the Wii had 2 Galaxy games and lasted 6 years, and Wii U only lasted a bit over 4 years. Odyssey released in the first year of a console with a long lifespan, which is why it has been so long. If the game releases next year, we're still on track.

I always think about that. Just like how people grew up during the golden era of Nintendo, the Switch being so wildly successful is going to benefit Nintendo in the long run when all these kids who grew up with the Switch get older and will have loyalty to Nintendo. For better or for worse. Many of them already are adults.
