The writing in KH3 was the weakest in the series. Which was frustrating, because it built upon a ton of games that had absolutely schizophrenic-tier writing/settings. So it was a real let down to fans, when the game dialed it all back and tried to summarize everything in one final fight. Basically, it did all the previous titles an injustice, which circumvented the standard that KH2 set for a main-line KH game.
While Square did patch/add DLC content it left fans in a sour mood. Because it was not the release-style they were used to/hoping for. But more specifically, it didn't fix the issues with the writing.
Dream Drop Distance actually was the height of the series. And it was an infinitly better 3rd entry to the game than KH3.
