Why don't gamers use Linux for gaming?

Because they're ignorant and think all Linux distros are all command line based. They don't know about distros like Arch Linux and Lutris, Wine, Proton, etcetera. The ones that play shit like Fornite and Valorant aren't going to switch to Linux anyways because they're imbiciles.

Mostly because of the obnoxious userbase, the fact nothing natively runs on it and requires your immediate intervention to work, and the alternative terminology that is used for shit everyone already understands.

Because nobody gives a fuck about it except a handful of autists. It's the video equivalent of beta or hddvd

Mostly because simple things are a pain in the ass on linux. Whereas with windows, it's complex things that are a pain in the ass. And most users only use their PC for simple things.
Also, it's not that much better. A small % performance boost isn't worth installing a whole new OS, even for power users who'd have no problem wrangling linux for daily use. It's just not worth even a little hassle.

From a technical standpoint is amazing, from an user experience standpoint is dogshit. People that use linux forget that the average user doesn't ever wanna see the terminal.
Anonymous No.719051430
Because there's legitimately no point.
Most people are just gonna buy a prebuilt computer and stick with whatever OS is on. Which is going to be windows 99% of the time if they have any intention of gaming. People want shit to just work. Not having to muck around with Proton/Wine etc is important.

For me, it's all the times I've seen some linux guy complaining/begging in the comments somewhere, because something is broken and nobody bothered to fix it for the 3 people using his meme software. Why would I go out of my way to become that guy? I might as well buy a mac and become the mac port beggar guy, too. Just fuck my shit up.

Because it's not good, especially for anything outside of gaming on Steam.

Pretty much everyone who uses a steam deck plays games on Linux. Why "more gamers" don't use it is because they're retarded.

The vast majority of PC Gamers use the OS that is running in their Net Cafe, or that came pre-installed on their laptop.
GNU/Linux so far only comes pre-installed on a single handheld PC model.

It is the most popular handheld PC by a decent margin, and a huge chunk of hobbyist system builders now build their systems for and install Linux based OSes, but that only gets you so far. To move much beyond 5% of Western PC Gaming, more systems need to come with Linux based OSes pre-installed. Particularly the type of systems net cafes buy which might explain the very low specs of the 'Fremont' engineering samples.

Thing is on systems built to run Linux it has been there for quite a while. There are whole categories of Linux based OSes you probably don't even think of as Linux because you don't need the terminal unless you want out of the curated experience.

Ironically, Microsoft's official "Won't fix" statements about critical issues with basic functionality of their new post-desktop OS point to their command line shell as the work around.

UNIX will win, precisely because Desktop has no future beyond a developer platform. Complain all you want about how mobile UNIX systems and handheld UNIX systems shouldn't count, but those of us who have been around long since made our peace with that reality.

Linux based OSes and BSD derivatives are already the majority of end-user systems. Microsoft's platform is burning, and they can't reverse it. They have fundamental problems they won't fix.

The truth is that all desktop operating systems are fucking trash.
Windows is bloated to shit and buggy as fuck. Linux just doesn't werk.
Mac is locked down trash that only runs on shit hardware.

Outside of a few publishers using NT Kernel Rootkit Malware to specifically block Linux based OSes, most things do just work these days.
Linux at least has the prospect of getting better. Microsoft has no incentive to improve their platform anymore. Making a better OS for gaming won't improve their bottom line.
