Having an option between male and female player character was originally planned for that game but it was cut to focus on other things.

If you play with revision, turn off all of the revision features and only use it as a roundabout way to install kentie's launcher and the dx10 renderer. revision is a downgrade from vanilla and only really worth it after you've played the original game 4 or 5 times just to experience some different but worse maps.
