Yesterday when I tried Hollow Knight for the first time. It's a soulsshit in 2D.

When trying to power through all the awful cutscenes to get to the dungeon in FFXIV 7.3 finally broke me that even when the dungeon finally appeared one cutscene later I didn't even care anymore.

Monster Hunter Wilds. I powered through the story ASAP to get to high rank but even beyond the story, which is admittedly a small part of the game, the actual core mechanics and design of the game just isn't fun. The grind used to be fun but it in Wilds it just feels bad and they massively overcorrected with nerfs from Rise. Even basic shit like the music, sound effects, hit stun, monster roars, are poorly designed, the game just doesn't feel good to play unlike other MonHun games.

Long ago, because it's been years since I've stopped allowing shit media to consume my time. If 4-5 hours in I'm not invested then I just drop it.

Zero Tolerance on Sega Genesis. The first act was okay, second act was a little cooler, but the third act is straight ass. As someone who loves dungeon crawlers, you can't make your FPS level a box maze with one type of enemy and expect me to give a shit.

SRW 30. I've loved the franchise, but 30 was the first time I've wanted to just drop the game. They were cutting things for years and 30 started pulling a Disgaea and replacing the sprite work with 3d assets. A new game is coming out soon and it's doubling down on these issues and I just don't feel like playing it.

I sort of have to agree that it becomes hours and hours of chores for minutes of combat, but I guess that's just most crafting open-world games.

Still, one thing valheim has that feels like a major pain is the thing where you can't carry some stuff through portals, forcing you to craft a boat and go aaaaall the way to one place and back, praying that your ship isn't destroyed in the way.

Plus, the character gets tired way too quickly IMO.

They do have options to allow all items through portals, and the Ashlands portal can also let metals through. But yeah the majority of the game is just little inconveniences and chores that pad out the handful of gameplay features into a mega slog, all the while giving some people the illusion of progress when you're doing the same stuff in a differently skinned biome except with the numbers slightly higher, over and over again.
