horrendously awful; they took the original aspects that made the series great and completely threw them out, turning it into souls slop light. dog shit over the shoulder camera that's way too close and the default controls are even mapped to the triggers like a fucking fps game. it is pure fucking modern trash for people that never played the original series, with one of the worst combat system I have ever experienced.

It's EVERYTHING wrong with modern games: RPG/"Progression" mechanics where they don't belong, forced walking and talking sections, auto-move/move-assist, checkpoints mid bossfight, RE4 camera, padded to increase game time...
It's shit and the most overrated videogame of all time.

Textbook AAA slop. I still think it's polished, it's not awful, in fact it's alright but it checks all the boxes. Combat has arbitrary limitation that make no sense and needed bandaid solutions to problems devs created themselves and that was really fucking annoying. Combat in general is kind of shit and only fun later on because of abilities and flashy effects that accompany them. The game's strongest point is the exploration and beautiful environments, probably what distracts from all the other flaws and tricks you into thinking you are playing a good game.

It also does this thing modern AAA games do where they try to be "mature" and want to be taken seriously but are too afraid to really do anything thought provoking (outside of gore of course gore is allowed) and I normally wouldn't think about it but the old GoW games didn't give a fuck and it's noticeable now that the game's deliberately tamer and self conscious.

I didn't get very far in it, I couldn't really adapt to having to manage combat and giving Atreus commands at the same time.

no sense of scale for most big things in game, literally a handful of moments where you feel like something big has moved or you have moved over a large area

all because they refuse to move the shoulder off of Kratos' back
there are plenty of beautiful vistas and sights to see only to be cockblocked by the limited as fuck photomode. especially in ragnarok
story is just meh, it could have been worse but it should have been a lot better and feels childish at times with how on the nose some of it's themes are

Despite all that I still had fun but I was very forgiving thinking the series would improve a lot with the second game. Obviously that wasn’t the case, so looking back I’d call both games very disappointing. Ragnarok was so boring I couldn’t even finish it

It's decent, it's not a God of War game but it's ok, if we compare it to the sequel you might consider this one a masterpiece honestly that's how much Ragnarok sucks ass

Paint by numbers AAA slop. Seeing journalists act like this shit was the best thing to happen to action games since DMC, and Sony tapering over the Greek era entirely in Astro Bot, made my eyes nearly roll into the back of my skull.
