Why did these remakes fail to live up to the legendary status of the original?

Despite all the initial praise, while the original is treated like a one of a kind work of art, these are just 8/10 decent games at best
even though they retaining a lot from the original.

Also, aside from the RE4 remake
why can't they hire an art director? Why can't they have a single guy to point out that their assets look too bland, the UE slop looks too gray, and that they should adjust certain things to at least some kind of feel, if not the original Feel.

They literally have no art direction, it's just higher quality assets slapped in place.

RE4 and Oblivion never needed remakes since those series are alive. Silent Hill and Metal Gear are dead so a remake that helps fund new games is welcome
