Nintendo has absolutely no interest in a bunch of third parties dumping a dogshit port of their game for quick easy bucks on their hot new console. Flooding the games available on the system with unoptimized slop will make for terrible marketing and give the console an undeservedly bad reputation.

They gave out a few for the big names and even then had to deal with From's complete dogshit performance for Elden Ring, which stuttered on PS5. Yeah, yeah, I know, /v/irgins love From, but they are ass at optimizing games, it is what it is.

Nintendo will, over time, give out more dev kits to trusted developers once the console is a little more mature and already has a solid library of games. I got mine yesterday and I played Odyssey without downloading the patch just to see how it looked without it. Boy does it look more pixelated than the OG switch, but the quality improves by a lot after the patch. The sad reality is that unless that 1) nintendo releases their dev kit tool to more developers and 2) devs even care about releasing a patch, a lot of S1 games will look like upscaled garbage.

Why though? I can barely notice any hardware improvements. The games look like they can still be made for Switch 1. Hell, they are even selling DLC for Switch 1 games exclusively for Switch 2. And also made Gamecube emulation exclusive as a middle finger to all their $70 online subscribers. The battery life is way worse now. Went from 6 hrs to 2 hrs. Lots of ghosting. The only benefits is bigger size (personally I'm the opposite and prefer a Switch Lite) and handheld resolution.
