I really don't understand why Astorias was supposed to be so hard for some people. I beat him with a +14 Zweihander on my third try, when I took my armor off, used power within and a resin before stepping through the fog gate. Do people, except for retarded streamers, really spend 3 hours on the same boss?

The dragon was much more difficult. It killed me a dozen times, before I got him.

I didn't use a guide. I am just a good explorer, who can reliably find all of the secrets in a level. And I am curious, so I read all of the item descriptions of the stuff I pick up. I also have the fundamentals down and know that you should dodge during the actual attack of an enemy, not during the wind up. In fact Taurus Demon teaches you to do this very thing, because it has an attack, which tracks your movement, even during a roll.

I've seen shitters who struggled against gargoyes beat O&S on first try.
Sometimes the player gets lucky, or unlucky.
Sometimes the player is locked tf in after a good night of sleep. Sometimes the brain is not working, or is preoccupied.
Some people are just naturally good at games. And some people are currently playing at their peak as a 14-18 year old. Others have fallen off.

I beat him on my 2nd try. Only died once. Better than you.

I remember my friend spent an entire day fighting Fire Giant in ER. I beat him first try.
But then I got stuck for 2 days fighting Godslayer Duo, while my friend beat them in 30 minutes.
There are so many variables at play. Sometimes you own, sometimes you get owned. Everyone is different. It's not a mystery.

Have you considered it might be harder to perform and keep cool in front of an audience of which at least half is trying to tilt you?

I beat him by stacking poise to the moon and trading hits with my zhudhänder while sipping flasks.

I played DS3 and beat every boss almost on the first try. Even the 'hardest' boss, the pontiff, only took me 2 tries. No phantoms or anything.
I think the problem was that I played Elden Ring first. Elden Ring is the hardest game Fromsoftware has ever released, and it's no wonder that so many Dark Souls 'pros' get angry at it. All of Dark Souls is rolling during attacks and waiting for your turn. It's not much harder than a turn-based RPG.

A relative of mine had this happen and I was baffled because I only died to the gargoyles twice but was stuck on O&S for like an hour.

He did have a lucky BKS or BKGS drop which he was using ever since it dropped which I know helped, but he only had it at like +2 at them.

DS1 teaches you to play slowly and methodically, and this boss changes the rules by encouraging the player to rush towards him.
Kind of like how PCR is easy to beat with a greatshield and a spear, but requires several attempts if you try rushing at him with dps.
