Also as for your question, i heard very good things about this game, i bought it but havent played it yet because i heard theres a DLC coming and its also still getting major updates. People say its the closest thing to an actual megastructure game.

BB as a whole is lazily made and the only reason why shills still pretend it's worth anything is because hardly anybody actually played it.
The fact that these people have the audacity to criticize combat in the following games, let alone bosses when BB is barely a notch above Dark Souls II in terms of bosses makes it even worse.

ER kinda, at least for the legacy dungeons. Shadow of the Erdtree's right half was pretty good with this but a lot of the zones are kinda sparse and empty except for boss fights.
For non Fromsoft games, you have wuchang, AI Limit and arguably Lords of the Fallen.

vibewalking was always a huge part of darksouls, at least 2 hours of my playthroughs are spent just chilling in front of sen's fortress. elden ring just takes vibewalking and makes it a core piece of the gameplay loop by giving you vast open plains to roam and ponder. did they maybe push TOO far in the opposite direction? perhaps, and you can already see the change of heart in SotE overworld, which is far more vertical and compacted compared to ER.

Ball is introduced by squishing an enemy, you progressively find out more about how it works throughout the level, first discover an NPC stuck due to the balls, then that they can switch direction, then the mechanic to make them switch direction, which you can use to your advantage and finally where they come from and how to put a stop to them

Skeleton in witch hat controls it. Conviniently, first witch skeleton is sitting in the very same hallway you have to go through, and you are likely to faceplant into him as you run in while ball is far away up the staircase.
It's also one single enemy in entire location that will actively run AWAY from you, making you wonder what's his deal. Finally, when you kill skeleton and ball falls apart after ramming a wall, you will hear a loud sound of crash wherever you are. And also ball always crashes near a hallway you visit later on that is blocked off by iron bars, so you absolutely will see that ball is gone and there's an item laying there.
DS3 is shit, but you can't claim there's no some inteligent design behind this specific thing.

Real issue is that there's just two of those, so you learn all this just to encounter one another skeleton ball that drops crab and it's witch skeleton is guarded far better. And also there's no real reason to deal with balls besides getting drops, it's not like you are going to walk in those areas alot after you clear them.

Everquest was this way back in the 90s. Zones like Upper and Lower Guk are so twisty and layered that its almost impossible to parse them using a map since its so honeycombed. I decided to play Project 1999 after a 20 year absence from the game and I was so fucking confused because I had forgotten my mental map of the place. The only way to do some of those dungeons is just by learning it, you could never navigate via a map.

Trivialises the open-world, unlimited stamina, better off not using in him combat outside of two boss, unless you're running away. Only other use he has for the mounting i-frames if you're feeling extra spicy.
>Bosses designed to abuse roll spam and R1 mashing

Useless in actual combat. Clowning on random soldiers in the middle of empty field is not actual combat.
>Bosses designed to abuse roll spam and r1 mashing
I dunno, I think roll spam still works like a charm.

So basically, all new stuff in ER are just QoL changes that were NECESSARY because without them:

>get smacked as you run around to setup running attacks
>get smacked as you whiff your tap direction+R2
>spirit ashes exist because they couldn't come up with million random NPCs to plop summon signs for for every single watchdog fight
