Ok, so, the key is to remember that he's Dracula from Castlevania and to not try to anticipate his movement. If you react too soon and try to dash up on him, he will scuttle away and you'll eat shit for it. You want him to lead, watch for his attack, then respond. If he crouches, he's slashing forwards then up, so either Dash away from him or jump and dash over him. If he's in the air, he's drill dashing at you, jump and hit him then. He goes to the center? Vines. Opens his cloak, he's shooting bats. Jump and hang in the air, then dash. Should get you over all three. That's the fight, have fun. Remember its a dance.

I practice the bosses for an hour straight and then I lose the muscle memory by the time I actually get to them in the gauntlet cause the other bosses throw off my rhythm. No amount of practice can make doing it feesible. I just gave up on the last one cause I couldn't be bothered going through every boss again. Also Radience is a trash boss that is impossible to "master" due to it having plenty of potential for unavoidable damage and I'm not putting myself through half an hour of bosses just for the last one to fuck me every time. It's tedious, it's not fun and tying one of the endings behind completing it is such a monumental fuck you from the devs.

My issue with this game's combat and why I find it so hard is that I just for the life of me cannot deal with the constant hit boxes thing enemies have. I have hated that shit since the very first game I ever played it in and I have hated it since. I can dodge actual enemy attacks for days but like 80% of the damage I take will literally always just be from standing too fucking close to an enemy. Your default nail size should be like 50% bigger so you can actually reliably hit enemies while not standing an inch from them. Dung Eater is my least favourite boss in the entire game cause his entire fight is just contact damage.

For me I'd say the biggest difficulty with Hollow Knight is combining platforming with dealing and avoiding damage. Any boss that is on a boss stage that's just like 3 platforms and a bunch of spikes completely filters me. I swear the biggest reason I've never managed to beat the last Pantheon is cause of those bosses where you have very little platforms to stand on.

I hope Hornet gets a unga bunga threads-of-fate multi-limbed God-spider form or something!

I genuinely think it's going to be easier since the biggest limiting factor for the first game was the knights clunky and more limited movement but Hornet seems to absolutely zip about so I think her massively boosted movement potential and smoother feeling gameplay is going to make the game overall feel easier even if the bosses are probably going to be mostly harder.

The greater mobility should make that easier then since there's less delay between your input and the character action. After playing a bunch of other new games in the genre Hollow Knight really does feel a bit clunky. The Knight moves so slowly.

The bosses in the trailer are on the level of lategame HK bosses, and many of those are known to be relatively early fights. We havent yet seen Silksongs' equivalent of Pure Vessel, NKG and stuff like that

Delay not exactly the right word but it's unquestionably sluggish. You start moving on input but because of how insanely slow the knight moves you might not be out of range of a hit by the time his chunky ass actually gets around to it and the delay between the start of the animation and the actual outcome makes it harder for me to keep up with everything. I can play super quick games easy because there's no time between cause and effect. Reducing that in my opinion is such an insane decrease in how difficult the game feels. Though it's subjective everyone's going to bounce off it differently.

But youre talking about delay when there should be zero delay. The knight literally has instant acceleration for his WASD, unironically hornet is the one that has a slight acceleration windup for her sprint and a bunch of her dashy moves

Hornet from what ive seen has more endlag on a lot of actions because she has some fancier, more impactful heavy stuff, or doing some twirls and acrobatics after certain moves

I really hope enemies are a bit more complex and trickier to deal with to compensate for Hornet's buffed movement and speed.

Most metroidvanias dont have tough enemies (hk being no different) and thats mostly fine, but there must be at least the illusion of opposition. If the enemies here are on par with the last game its going to be a little too pathetic to go through, like a kirby game.
