>Analyzing the top 150 Steam titles – excluding Counter-Strike 2 – by average monthly active users (MAU) between January 2024 and June 2025, discovering that 55% of the most played games have an average sales price (ASP) of $20 or less.
>AA releases, with an ASP between $30 and $50, also attract a notable share of players, accounting for 18%. Expensive releases, however, are less popular among PC gamers, with only 3% of the top 150 titles having an ASP over $50. In fact, only one game with an average price above $60 appears in the list – Split Fiction.

I told you the poors are what's causing all the cheap and f2p slop to flood Steam

Yes, exactly. Nice thing is that I don't have to buy them but these retards drive the industry because there are endless poors. It's also poor behaviour to buy shit games just because they are cheap. You will get more out of a higher priced, well put together game than you will out of your humble bundles.

We're nearing the death knell of games costing money at all. Zoomers playing Roblox and getting every experience they could want for free did this. It was inevitable.

I'm not going to play f2p slop, or more accurately named p2w

Steam is a third worlder platform. Games in that price range are the games they can run.

f2p games have been around for a long time. There are a lot of cheap games because f2p games have changed people's pricing expectations.

Damn, who could have seen that coming?

bruh, because they're going by AVERAGE sale price it makes this data uselss. only the most recent games that aren't garbage have high average sale prices, which is a really small sample size. what useless fucking article

This is very stupid because even AAA games drop their ASP down to sub-$20 over their lifetime. The only games that actually retain anything close to launch ASP is Nintendo and (use to be) Sony releases on Steam. Lifetime ASP for a good game is usually something pathetically low like $15. What you're seeing is consumers being well trained by publishers to wait for sales.

Pointless , steam has sales all year round. You are delusional if you think poorfags don't buy AAA games at 10 to 30 bucks.

It's more like AAA's complete inability to make anything worthwhile. I'd rather buy 4 $20 indie games and gamble on one being extremely good than pay $80 for a single game I know will be paint-by-numbers and incredibly average.

Are they?
>check RDR 2 price, which is like 10 years old game
>60$
nice price drop
not even indie games drop their prices anymore, actually, a lot of them lock discounts to just 30%

you show me discount, not game price and as I said a lot of indies lock discounts to just 30%
price drop is something like Nier 2butt game that released at 60$ but later price was reduced to 40$, this isn't counting discounts, obviously

Games have next to no value in general. No one will hand you welfare for producing trash.

Thats not really surprising when you think about it. Most of the shit from Triple A has been complete shit during that time, and those would be the games that are over $50. Then add in the economy and how everyone is spending their money on groceries, and you see people would prefer F2P or cheap games. Gen Z is hit especially bad by this too. It also helps that its easier to get a friend into a 10-20 games than a 50-70 game. They also like friendslop games which tend to be in that price range. And there you go. Thats why everyone is playing cheap games.

I always thought it was silly that publishers want to make games more expensive. Its clear the game prices will be pushed down as the higher cost games sell worse than the low cost ones to the point where more money is made at the low end. The high cost games sell faster but worst overall (see Monster Hunter as an example). Prices will keep going down on games overtime especially as Zoom Zooms have less disposable income than the millennials had at the same time in their life.

The sale price is the real price. The $60 price tag is just there for anchoring. Anyone who actually pays that is a retard.

For the past 4 years I've never paid for a game that isn't at least 40% off. If it never goes on sale I'll grab a key somewhere on allkeyshop.

I obviously pirate them first
