At least Peak is a fun game and I never actually played Lethal Company
But Repo is insanely boring and barebones while also having the single worst banner I've seen for a game and it's still on fucking early access.

Funny thing is that Lethal Company is actually more fun when you play it with complete strangers. Proximity chat and limited information play a pretty big role in the game. Unless you've got radios, you're not going to be able to communicate with your teammates over long distances. If you're dead, you can't communicate with members of your teammates who are still alive, and the only way to tell if your teammates are dead is by seeing the corpses yourself or checking the computer in the ship to see if they're still moving (and that's not always immediately apparent because they might just be getting dragged by a spider or bracken). On top of that, voice chat comes into play with some of the enemies. Eyeless dogs will react to proximity chat if you talk while too close to them and snare fleas will actually muffle your voice.
It's kind of like SS13 where one of the few ways to really cheat is by using outside communication and if you're playing with friends, they'll probably insist on using some shit like Discord which basically nullifies some of the main gameplay elements.

Not like it's a new genre it just used to be free source mods. Is /v/ too young to remember The Hidden or TTT

You guys make me remember the words of my grandfather. He only had one metric for determining whether or not a movie was good: entertainment. Basically, as long as it wasn't boring then it was a good movie, regardless of the reasons you liked it.
If a game played with friends is a vehicle to having fun then it's a good game, regardless of any other factors. There might be better games for you to play together, but does it matter? If you had fun playing a game then it served its purpose.

this is literally what gaming is nowadays for teenagers. it's a third space that facilitates a large amount of their social interaction. fortnite is more of a social platform than a video game nowadays. friendslop games are simply a more cynical way to cash in on this realisation.

Covid making younger teenagers and preteens primarily socialize online during a sensitive development period. That's basically it, nothing fancy or complicated, no malicious plot or conspiracy to flood the store with slop.
Anyway
I have no friends who want to play any games I enjoy and no games they like with MP that I like. We play at different times, we enjoy different things.
For example, I have friend X, Y, and Z.
Friend X likes FFXIV and Uma Musume. I hate anything with a subscription and Uma is boring as fuck.
Friend Y likes gacha and Skyrim, both singleplayer. When he plays MP it's just CSGO.
Friend Z only plays MtG arena and 7DtD.
The only MP games I play are Elsword and Master Duel, neither of which any of them want to play, for good reason (both of those are terrible).
There's also another but he's mostly console.
I imagine a lot of the developers of "friendslop" are aiming to take advantage of friendgroups like this who have different tastes, with a generically appealing game that's easy to pickup and enjoy.
