This is why I categorically refuse to buy remakes of games: it's essentially telling the publishers and the devs that they don't need to have any original vision for their games and just rehash old ideas ywet still make bank.

I'm just one person, but the originals of most remade games have artistic merit and genuine sincerity that's lacking in the remakes (so in essence, soul). You can add some quality of life features to make the actual mechanics better and make it run on modern systems without compromising the actual artistry in the OG games, but remakes basically shit on all of that and replace the original vision of the devs, artists, director and producer with a poor imitation just to appeal to the unwashed masses. And the saddest part is it works.

At least there are some people that don't fall for it at least.

The thing with the second disk is that it isn't even "Oh finally the gameplay is over I never liked it much anyway, all story from here on". It's not just one big cutscene, the story itself feels cut down. One moment early on is when Fei fights Ramsus and it's really barebones with barely any dialogue when it should probably be a big deal. If the only difference was that it skipped all the exploration and gameplay it would be one thing but the budget constraints fucked with the whole presentation of the story. Visual Novel almost feels like the wrong term for the 2nd disk

Bringing in the original creators increases risk of things going all over the place though. Not uncommon I see fans stating they want Monolith on this, but that is exactly how we got to 7R. Original devs don't look at the game like fans do, they'll see the flaws in their own work, things they wanted to do differently at the time but couldn't, changed their mind on certain stuff etc.
Best outcome is outsourcing to a competent studio that has a passion for the original.
