I stopped playing because of UB. I miss the game a lot and want to come back but I won't. It really sucks seeing mark rosewater and his sycophants say shit like "by all metrics UB is saving the game and is the best thing ever and is basically the second coming of Christ just look at how well it's selling :^)" when it has done nothing good for me. Before I left the store could barely fire any non-commander tournament, but still were able to. Now they're lucky if they can get even a draft night going.
But they'll just point to their data and say it's more popular than ever. I don't care about hasbro's bottom line, I don't care about these mythical new players, I care about my experience and frustrations that I will likely never play this game again.

Best news since pioneer was confirmed, just too bad pioneer went to shit during the three years it took to finally implement. Maybe it won't take as long for EDH

I'm a draftchad so it's fairly easy to ignore UB. I just play midweek events while UBslop is on and save up gold and gems for the sets I want to draft. It's actually kind of relieving cause it means I get to take longer breaks in between sets now.

I've played Magic for about a decade, and the game is in a horrible spot. I could ramble and ramble, but the short version is Magic sucks, it's consistently sucked for a the past few years, I've become fatigued with how much it sucks, and now I play different games instead. Fuck Magic. Of the Top-3 TCG games (Magic, Pokemon, Yugioh), Magic is easily the worst one.

Commander is a fan made 4 player singleton format. It gained a ton of popularity when wizards adopted it. It is "casual" and usurped common place kitchen table magic.
In doing so, wizards found a very easy very milkable market of whales they could cater to at the expense of other formats.
The game has not and will likely never recover from this.

EDH/Commander was NEVER intended to be the "format"/mode players played. It was a side thing to do between rounds at tournaments, but it became the cancer that is killing the proper game.

I went to a game store like 50 miles away from me to do a Premier (since our local wasn't a WPN store yet) Draft for an Un- set (the sticker one in space). You'd think being an Un- set would have casuals showing up and/or tournament players playing for fun right?

NOBODY SHOWED UP. LITERALLY NOBODY besides me and 3 others. So the draft didn't fire (since they wanted like 6-12 players).

At least I got the Richard Garfield promo from Unglued back in the day, but Christ.

At this point I proxy Magic and play on Forge while playing Netrunner. No point in spending money on Hasbro, especially after they killed Netrunner not once but TWICE.

Commander is anything but perfect, its flaws seep into the gameplay, the people that play it, the decks and the designers. All they think about is commander and endless creativity so they need to make it work but then the endless rules against what shouldn't be played invalidate that creatitivity.
