if 3rd person is locked to a forward view like max payne then it doesn't make that much of a difference, you have some extra fov and you can corner cheese but as far as reacting to enemies you're limited by your backward strafe and turning speed.
what I really liked about 2make was the extent evasion and chase were mechanics. because you could look behind you and actually engage with enemy movements while running away. the same of course goes for the fixed camera angle games, the main game of nemesis besides fighting him was having to make a quick jugement of his super punch lunges and steer out of the way. in a first person or forward locked game where you have a slow back strafe you have to roughly 360 to see enemy and then be at your full speed running away from them, nemesis just doesn't work with that camera system.
