is Majora's Mask really better than Ocarina of Time?
Anonymous No.719098151 >>719099363 >>719099457
It's a dark depressing masterpiece. Ocarina of Time is kiddie crap

For its time, OoT was the better game.
Majora's Mask aged better.

No its a bunch of waiting and busy work fetch quest with less than half the dungeons

No the gameplay sucks compared to OoT but nobody here will admit that because /v/ doesn't actually play games.

story, maybe.
not a fan of the time limit, even though you can slow it down.
gameplay isn't much different than OoT except having a few more movement options with the masks.
some of the weapons/shields look ridiculously bad.
it has the worst final sword upgrade design in any zelda game.

I dont know why people say its darker than OoT, in OoT ganondorf destroyed and killed everyone in the town and turned them all in to zombies, skeletons, and ghosts to serve him among other atrocities.

OoT only dark in a few places, but when it is it's scarier than anything in MM

No. Zoomers liking it more is all "vibes based". Zoomers don't actually play video games, they just listen to soundtracks (slowed + reverb) and watch video essays.

>not a fan of the time limit, even though you can slow it down.

I literally just realized something: the time loop is a parody of the OoT ending. Think about it. What happens at the end of that game? Link is sent back in time, and all of his heroic deeds are undone. The same thing that happens over and over again in this game. Pretty much the whole situation is Skull Kid/Majora mocking Link for what happened in Hyrule. Link forcibly became an adult and then returned to childhood, but didn't feel like he belonged in his childhood home anymore. Muh Jora starts with Link being trapped in an even more childlike form, gradually maturing over the constant cycle, and ends with him taking on a form that represents the man he has become on the inside.

nah, the time limit and having to redo shit is an annoyance, great game but where i could replay oot yearly, majora's is more of a once in a while thing.
Also they made the coolest sword hardly usable, points off for that.

OoT and MM are both excellent games for different reasons

i have never once had an issue with the time limit and i've played this game multiple times since I was 11
who the fuck is having trouble with this? why don't try to not fit everything into 3 days? get to the temple, save, restart, then warp there and do the temple with a full 3 days?
you can even slow it down with reverse song of time

Tone-wise, musically, and storywise, sure. Better boss fights too. But if you don’t care about sidequests, not at all

>it's LE DARK
Holy fucking YOUTUBER WANK

MM has fantastic dungeons and the time loop concept is executed extremely well (particularly if you're playing a version where Double Time can get you to any hour like the modded recomp or 3DS) but people totally love to give it a sloppy rimjob like it's something totally deep and depressing just because it slightly touches upon stakes for characters in a game (which aren't really there, if you beat the game everything gets resolved even if you don't redo it on the final loop). I suppose compared to modern Nintendo yeah it does have a more serious and darker undertone.

It's also padded as fuck. What people praise as "sidequest oriented" game in reality is no more sidequest oriented than any other Zelda, most of the stuff is just the usual get object X to open heart piece Y but sometimes you have to do a thing three times for no reason and other times you have to remember to reclear a boss and waste your fucking time, or sit there and wait until an NPC is available, the only real big non-linear sidequest is Kafei's that almost everything in the Clock Town is tied around and that's it. And you don't have to do it to beat the game. But you know what you do have to do? The dungeons. Sidequest oriented my ass.

Majora's Mask fans are some of the biggest pseuds of videogame communities. Probably just played it when they were 12.

Yes? It has a vastly better overworld, superior game structure with the time mechanic, actual good sidequests, cool transformations that play differently, and the existence of actual decent bosses. The only thing bad in MM is all the retarded shit they copied from OoT like the obnoxious companion character and allowing Aonuma to design the dungeons again (I sure do love pointless padding).

Holy fucking kino.
>>719099773
True, but from Link's perspective, practically everything he had done up to that point might as well have been undone after getting sent back to the child timeline.

You had to be there.
I'll never forget the 7 year old me learning the futility of the passage of time through that game.
Of course, video essays about this game are fucking overdone and make it feel like the game being deep is just a meme but the world felt alive. Characters are not only there to push the story but they have goals and grievances.
I think it's a much superior game narrative and gameplay wise, although dungeons might be a bit lacking.
Also, the music. Probably the best soundtrack in the whole Zelda series. Song of Healing is a masterpiece.

Yeah OoT is pretty dark. I guess it's because in MM you can see the fear build up. You're running on a timer which puts pressure on you as a player. And as far as time travel goes, OoT makes less sense. The future is already fucked, so why are you trying to fix it as an adult instead of in the present as a kid?

Also as a kid playing this I didn't actually understand that the sages died. I thought they just transported to the sacred realm and helped you. MM was much more explicit with deaths. And you see people quaking in fear and stuff.

I loaded the save on the rented cartridge two times and it spawned me in different locations, the same save file. I noped out so fast.
