Because corporate interests do not align with this. The only thing that actually matters to the ruling class is the constant, increasing flow of money. Next quarter's profits, next year's, next whatever. These people do not think about the long-term effects of this mindset, because that's not their job. They're ultimately just people like us. They want to do their job and get through the day.
The ultimate driving force of all this absurdity is Capitalism. We've reached a point where can't be a period of negative growth or else the whole system will collapse. The America dollar is the world's default currency for international business. If the American economy had a full-blown implosion and the value of the USD plummeted, the world would suffer.
So now we're in a situation where America cannot slow down under any circumstances. We need to import more immigrants to keep the system going. We need private equity to buy houses so they can make more money. Goods have to be made as cheaply as possible in order to gain as much profit to keep the treadmill of global Capitalism running.
Then you add to this situation that America is the singular dominant military power in the world and can most countries play to their tune, you realize that the fall of the US economy is literally the downfall of the current world order. The people in power will NEVER allow that to happen.
