Diddy was never relevant on his own merit. He is not compelling or fun. People only ever even remember him when he's missing from a game where DK is the star.
Just look at all the racing games coming out:
Mario Kart World
Kirby Air Riders
Sonic Racing Crossworlds
Guess what racing franchise no one cares about or wants? Diddy Kong Racing. Even Garfield Kart 2 has more interest than that heap of forgettable characters. Oh wait, they're not all forgettable, are they? We got Banjo from DKR and he eclipsed Diddy too.
Diddy is nothing but a Rareware forced meme OC, made to ride on the coattails of a gaming icon. The sooner he is consigned to a footnote in DK's history, the better.
