Link's awekening is one of the greatest zelda games of all time
but this is just a pale replica. the style is cute and all but I feel torn about it because it's a 50/50.... in one hand I'm happy they still remember kino and remade it but on the other hand I feel like they could've done something else like idk maybe another sequel like the oracles games dunno

this one still enables 3 heart mode though doesn't it, the original game doesn't without romhacks. Also assume the remake prevents the longwinded pot touching text from the english version but honestly I dunno, I haven't played a switch game since like 2018

Links awakening in general is probably the best of the top down zelda games.
The remake doesnt compromise too much.
Losing the camera shop from dx is a shame but really it was just one or two funny cutscenes.
I like the remake art style personally and i dont really get how anyone could hate it.

not taht anon but aside from nostalgia, it's just a well-put together zelda that hits a good mix of character/story, exploration/dungeon crawl, and gameplay/sidequests. Used to see a chart posted years ago putting zelda games somewhere on a 3-circle venn diagram of those rough categories, and LA falls cleanly in the middle. Just a good delivery of all the traits of the series as a whole. Also short and sweet, and while it doesn't offer much freedom of exploration it also doesn't feel like it holds your hand or gates you too badly. Usually complaints are that the game is too short or that it doesn't do enough of A/B/C trait that someone prefers most in zelda (ie. not as many sidequests/characters as Majora, not as good of challenge as Zelda 2) but it's pretty solid on every point so it's hard to really dislike it without just not liking zelda altogether. Last replayed it in 2023 so I'd say it still holds up even if I have a lot of childhood nostalgia for it.

Its an almost by the numbers type of game.

I'm an old fag, never got around to it until switch and you can fucking tell its a gameboy game. Its fantastic for a gameboy game tho, but there's a lot of that "early gaming" tedium.

You're really not missing out if you'll never play this game.

But also it's just really charming!
The puzzles are all nice and the dungeons are tricky but also short and sweet and overall it's just a zelda game.
It's a gameboy game also so you shouldn't expect anything super extra but for what it is and what it's trying to be it's a really really really good gameboy game
there's a reason it's ALWAYS put really high on those top 10 GB/GBC games of all time

It's a good game and Eagle's Tower is god-like. It's been like nearly 20 years no other 2D Zelda has managed to outperform it in the fun factor.

Feels like wasted potential given what could be done had they made a remake with a bit more freedom of spirit. This remake reminds me of the Nintendo Land Zelda game but without the charm of intentionally designing everything to look like a toy.

It's so much worse than DX and the OG.
It's just clear how much of the game was not designed to be opened up or altered the way it was, and yet the game still removed screen transitions, allowed for horizontal attacks, and now you can make so many, many ridiculous skips and shit that were clearly never intended. And the new camera perspective and wider screen spoils puzzles before the game even has a chance to make you struggle.
Because they wanted to "modernize" the game even though it wasn't built to be "modern". And the game wasn't really changed to accommodate.

And beyond even that. Why did they remove the photographer? Because the Switch doesn't have the GB Camera? That's dumb.
It's just straight up inferior. I wish it didn't exist.

It was impressive for a gameboy game. As a modern game its nothing special but it still holds up.

It should be about 20 bucks
But instead its 60 [sometimes 40 on sale)

watching the trailer for this shit when they first announced it was a gut punch

the soundtrack is stupid too, the instruments used seemed like they were for "le cutsey atmosphere" but all the tracks sound worse for it, and to think they built another whole fucking game on this stupid engine, fuck
