My microsoft account got hacked once and email transferred (didnt even send confirmation email for that). They noticed it was hacked but no support pajeet was able to restore my original minecraft account.
It will also not allow you to log into minexraft if there is a mismatch between pc account and microsoft account.

You paid for a YOUR game to play on YOUR server on YOUR hardware.
An account is simply a formality to verify your name and skin to the server and was, in fact, always optional.
