Lords of the Fallen has the most satisfying "big bonk" weapons of any souls game.

Is that so, anon? I enjoyed my charge attack builds a lot, but I thought stuff like the Boomhammer or Stake Driver were a bit more satisfying to pull off.

I enjoyed using fuckhueg swords. One of the few soulslikes that I've finished, I usually drop them half way.

I heard this one apparently has actual good level design. True or not?
Anonymous No.719106452 >>719106670

The overall level design is very DaS1 but bigger. There's a big central interconnected loop and a few offshoots to places.

However there's quite a bit of puzzle/platforming to make use of the two-world gimmick, so depending on how much you enjoy that aspect of souls will increase or decrease your ejoyment of the macro level design.

Ive always wanted more of this in action adventures to make them truly adventure.

Its just about whether its half assed or not. I can respect the effort of including a lot of it, even if its not the most interesting, but even then it has to atleast be different and not feel like filler.

If everything youre saying its true, it makes no sense the game got a bad rap, already more unique than 90% of soulslikes while actually giving attention, and focus to level design which not only 90% of soulslikes fail at, but even fromsoft has failed at since bloodborne.

More or less. High levels of verticality, shortcuts, multiple paths, but tries very hard to fuck you over by placing ranged enemies in advantageous positions constantly. Dark Souls 1 style design.
I think that might've been lessened in one of the billion patches since launch.

Glad to see some of you fags come around on this title. It's legitimately one of the best soulslikes ever made

ranged mobs were nerfed a long with the general mob spam over multiple patches. Range mobs specifically had their accuracy decreased so they're not S tier snipers anymore

Happy the sequel is fixing the dogshit umbral world mechanic.

I liked it a lot, but trying to 100% it was kind of a drain, having to play though it so many damn times just because some quest NPCs lock others out and you gotta get the 4 different endings, which are exclusive to certain NPC questlines- which will fuck you up if you don't follow a meticulous guide some other cunt made. I know it was an issue when one of the first patches they dropped was a "New game (Not) plus mode" so you can just curb stomp your way though and it STILL took too long. Granted I dunno how much has changed, I stopped playing it just before the "roguelike" update.

source? didn't know they'd said anything specific about the two-world gimmick

Yeah that's one of the issues they are changing in the sequel too. Devs said quests and world will be much easier to navigate.

- Umbral ending is cannon
- Game will be more polished at launch.
- Larger variety of enemies
- Wasn't very specific but it sounds like Umbral will only be for some specific levels or it will be triggered at some point and change the world. You cannot step into Umbra at will anymore.
-Better multiplayer

Is better this way. Double world was cool on paper but bad in execution. No point in playing in the normal world when 90% of the progress and items are in Umbral world only.

Playing with a blue filter on got old fast too. Game is prettier in the normal universe but if you played there, 10 seconds later the game would force you to change to because of some invisible platform or ladder you can only access in the other world. It was dumb.

Watched the video, where does he say that because I must of missed it

Actually sounds almost exactly like DS1. DS1 loves the high perched ranged enemies you cant reach yet, so you have to find a way to deal with while managing melee enemies till you can reach them. Its part of what makes encounters feel a bit like a puzzle you have to unravel, lots of management of space but not in the direct way.

Fuck, unless the patch really nerfed it to being braindead (just like Wuchang, these soulslike devs always cave, part of why videogames lack any substance in the modern day, every single complaint is capitulated to. But ill be charitable and assume the nerfs were reasonable). This genuinely sounds like good stuff, almost too good to be true. Dont know whether to wait for the sequel or say fuck it and get the game.

mob density was nerfed quite a lot, but the game has built in optional NG modifiers including one to restore the launch mob density if you find the new intended experience too easy.

I completed the game at launch and think reducing the mob density was the right choice, it was quite annoying and illogical in some places to the point of being immersion breaking.

I played it at launch on PS5, it had potential but it was rough. Umbral World ran like shit, balancing was poor, the iceskating movement sucked. They only fixed it recently.

Are you allowed your own ranged options to return fire or is this one of those soulslikes that prefers to remove the ability to do anything other than melee from the player?

liked it a lot at first, feeling like it's really outstaying its welcome towards the end
desperately needs more enemy variety and more weapon types
great level design though and i actually rather liked flipping back between worlds and finding secret paths in umberland

gonna burn this irredeemably shithole world to the ground for daddy satan and then maybe an umbral playthrough later but i WILL be looking at a guide

Personally dont like Elden Ring either, but DS2 and DS3 are definitely horrible. DS3 might be my least favourite soulslike ever. Atleast DS2 maintained some semblance of DS1 combat principles.

DS3 made me drop it countless times in the first area. The high wall of lothric or whatever it's called. It was genuinely GOD AWFUL. The 2 times I got past it I reached almost end-game but this is where I dropped DS2 too. After going halfway through I'm thinking its terrible and I'm not having any fun at all.

STR+Faith is meh ( I did it )
I'd go for fire damage so basically Inferno spells and something like proselyte sword
