They never actually gave you clutter box shit that you could unlock with real cash. The cash shop was an entirely separate entity and you could play the game for free without ever giving a shit about it. No monster would ever drop something locked behind a payment. Looking back that's pretty decent of them. But all their cosmetic shit had a lot of rental and limited use shit instead of gambling for stuff you owned permanently...
You could gamble for shit in f2p though. There was a market for shitter gloves (any class could use them). For items like it you have 5 "enchantment slots" and each GOOD enchantment that was tier had a 60% chance of working. So if you succeeded that 60% chance five times in a row you were golden. That may have been paypig shit actually, I'm not sure. Nowhere near as cool as say a gun with motherfucking Christmas lights though
