It's the most polarizing Zelda game. Some people love it, some people hate it, but there's not really a broad consensus. This very thread is an exact example of that.

The empty open world gets worse over time with advancements being made in world design

Similar in situation with Mario Sunshine. Tried something in a new direction, and it's either you love it or hate it. Personally, I don't find it worse than Twilight Princess.

I’ll add to this by saying their diminished opinion of this game isn’t due to direct experience with playing WW, but adopting the opinion of some retard eceleb YouTuber who made an hour long video saying how everyone was actually wrong about WW for years and it always sucked. Now they say the same thing from a position of authority. This pretty much summarizes 98% of zoomer opinions or virtually any game.

would I rather have had a dungeon or two? Absolutely, but I'll take the triforce quest over korok seeds any day, don't get the criticism for the artifact hunt in metroid prime either, with that logic all metroidvanias are bad because they have backtracking

Toon graphics were the beginning of the end for Zelda. They were a result of rushing the game which Ninty then got rewarded for. Every single game with those graphics is absolute hogshit. I hate that we'll never see the end of it.

I think a lot of the haters are contrarians on /v/ or people that put too much credence in being a "hardcore gamer". These people don't even realize that mose Zelda games are rather easy all things considered but they're still good games. The only truly difficult Zelda game I can think of is OoT Master Quest.

Skyward Sword was more polarizing that Windwaker. Windwaker was beloved for a long time before zoomers started hating it. People were very mixed on Skyward Sword becasue the motion controls were kinda shit and having it tied to combat made for a bad experience. Also the story was a lot more lame than the other Zelda games before it.
