This game is fascinating because it basically was only made so Yuji Naka could get close to Squeenix's financial plans/internal documentation to do insider trading. He never actually planned for this to be good.

No, it isn't. It sucks. I think the genesis of its creation is interesting because it was made solely to get near documents he wanted.

That is an interesting theory. Slap a game together to get close to Square-Enix, when his real goal was a get rich quick scheme. there's some indication that naka cared somewhat, eh's just inept.

1. The game's story/setting really feels like something you'd see from Sega on the Dreamcast.
2. He wrote a BOOK and other bullshit.
3. Wouldn't making a successful game make him more money in the long run? He would have more stock options, higher promotions, consistent pay, a cut of profits, etc.

About 1.2 million dollars, which doesn't really seem worth it considering this game probably cost at least three or four.

Alternatively, he could have joined sincerely, and got frustrated during game development and decided that since the game is goign to crash out he might as well get rich through insider trading. He would think he "deserves" this. Naka has a long history of being a major league ego driven asshole.

Fair. It just is so bad and so rushed it seems like a scam.

Why did no one at Squeenix ever say "Why is Naka looking at the release details and financials of our Final Fantasy gacha we are making?"

I swear it was Wonderland. Wonderworld doesn’t even sound right.

Could be anything. Could be that people just have access to some developer server with details on release dates.

This is most likely what happened. Seems like what he would do.

Because I bet they have no system to monitor who accesses what information
Japanese devving consists of 10 minutes of dogshit coding followed by 9hours or updating random company pdf files

But so did MN9, Yooka layley, and endless other unity/unrela engine games. The thing is that you need a budget, programmers, and a good team to make a game. If you don't have a good solid foundation and management, you can't make a good game.

A lot of these "old devs return to make a spiritual successor" games is a lack of a good team and programmers, so they are just running blind in Unreal Engine. It's SUPER easy to slap some garbage together in Unreal if you really don't know what you're doing.

I blame ineptitude than anything. Even games like Bloodstained looked ugly/rushed, when we know it wasn't the case. Igarashi and Naka have a background in programming but it's 90s era consoles, which is irrelevant for Unreal.

How is insider trading even illegal? Why should someone be penalized for being well-informed and making strategic investments?

China's stock market is mostly insider trading and deal making behind closed doors, which is why no one trusts it and no one thinks they can make money on it. Only through corrupt CCP connections can you profit from their stock market which deters outside investors.

Someone invests in a company to earn a portion of their profits and to potentially trade the stock itself if it rises. That's the whole point.
