Possible, but difficult. I’m in my 40s and the sad reality is as you get older, your friend group gets smaller and smaller. Pretty much an out of state move or someone getting married is enough to ensure you never get to hang out with them again. I haven’t hung out with friends and games with them since Smash Ultimate first came out. Getting old fucking sucks.

I don’t blame them with being busy with work, their spouse, and sometimes kids, but it just feels lonely not being able to game with real people anymore. Online gaming has never done it for me either, even with people I know irl.

Real answer? They’ve replaced the mental exercise and reward they used to get from playing - and particularly doing well in - video games with something more permanent and real. Finding success in family and work reveals how truly pointless video games are, good for nothing more than socializing and relaxing without thought or care. I still play and enjoy them but I can’t help but shake my head at people - especially adults - who find any sense at all of pride and accomplishment at any achievement whatsoever in a video game.
You have to understand that everything appealing about games is a carefully engineered shadow of the real thing, designed to reward you without needing to do the work. That’s not how we’re made to live, and it’s why ultimately you either grow out of gaming as a replacement for real things or sink ever further into misery.

As a parent and husband I partially agree, I still game (both single player and with friends) but there's a lot of other shit to do that it doesn't take priority over much of anything anymore. I don't foresee myself 'growing out' of it any time soon though, and look forward to playing some Mario Party with my kids soon.

If I'm hanging out with friends I'd rather do something a little more personal like eating out or playing some pool etc.

I don't even have a gf and I don't play vidya anymore. I don't know what happened, one day I just stopped and that was it. Maybe every six months we'll play whatever friendslop that's the flavor of the week at the time but that's it. I used to play WoW and CS for hours and now I just have zero interest

My wife and I are both gamers and play games together regularly, wouldn't have it any other way. We are childfree though, so aside from working a few hours most days, still have plenty of time to do whatever we want. The real problem I have seen with trying to organize multiplayer games with more than just us 2, or just maintaining friendships in general, it seems like most adults our age have kids taking up all their time or otherwise choose to dedicate all of their free time to some career like it's a hobby for them. Being married is not an issue, it's how much time people are willing to have available.
