Real answer? Theyโve replaced the mental exercise and reward they used to get from playing - and particularly doing well in - video games with something more permanent and real. Finding success in family and work reveals how truly pointless video games are, good for nothing more than socializing and relaxing without thought or care. I still play and enjoy them but I canโt help but shake my head at people - especially adults - who find any sense at all of pride and accomplishment at any achievement whatsoever in a video game.
You have to understand that everything appealing about games is a carefully engineered shadow of the real thing, designed to reward you without needing to do the work. Thatโs not how weโre made to live, and itโs why ultimately you either grow out of gaming as a replacement for real things or sink ever further into misery.
