well yes, for precision platforming it's extremely good. auto friction near edges, duck jumping, very precise control in the air, etc

I'm not convinced it isn't. Fun fact, the radio telescope where that was filmed was in disrepair for a number of years and finally collapsed on itself a few years ago.

Yes. The only difference is that HL1 has the slight view roll when strafing, which most people don't even remember because they didn't play the versions before it was patched out. Every engine with Quake movement as the base is good.

no trust me i really do like source engine movement. but something about the jumping in hl2 in particular feels off to me
why do you get a slight horizontal speed boost when you jump
why does you speed change so rapidly after you land out of an airstrafe into a crouch. jumping in left 4 dead feels perfectly fine. it's just hl2 and portal 1 that bug me

Valves hate-boner for bunnyhopping and all the stupid "fixes" they've put in like not allowing buffered jumps is so fucking brain damaged. Expecially when that stupid backwards jump is perfectly acceptable in their eyes. We now have a community of people with mousewheel bound to fucking jump.

like hl1 thats some fucking kino movement
almost the exact same code but with slightly different numbers and missing these extra mechanics

It's different there because the edge friction system interferes with it probably. Watch the HL2 and HL1 making of documentaries. I had no idea that edge friction system existed but in sections like the bridge where you platform on narrow beams or get close to ledges, they ramp movement friction way up to help people not fall off. It wasn't skill.

Same guy also claimed that when you jump off ramps in the buggy, they just turn off gravity for you and then gradually fade it back in.
Anonymous No.719119728
>>719119609
They straight up admit it in the 20th anniversary documentary. They found out that they couldn't make the buggy very fast or else players would just blast through all the levels too quickly, but then when they made it slow it didn't have enough momentum to make the jumps, so they came up with the gravity trick.
