The size of party varies, and generic mooks you sometimes get can be set to act autonomously. It's partway to SRPG from XCOM. There is a whole lot of yapping.
It's what happens when autist grindhell K-slop game designers make XCOM. Fortunately it's not a free to play game so it's actually good and you can cheat it if it gets too grindy.
To cheat: the save file is an SQLite database which you can just open in a SQLite client to edit if you want
Anime XCOM with build autism and top tier waifus. It uses interleaved turns, but some maps have so many enemies (Starlight Junction, my beloved) it can take a while until one of your turns comes around again. I has a lot of minor features that are underdeveloped and pretty pointless, but you can ignore them.
