Lumines Arise demo got released with no fanfare today. It sure more Lumines in a post-Tetris Effect world. It's exactly what I wanted.

Lumines always sucks. I can scarcely believe there's some new version. The gameplay sucked, the inherent challenge of matching the squares is never fun, and the arbitrary clearing line is not a natural rhythm to the flow of the action. EVEN THE MUSIC sucked, which for some reason people mistakenly believe that it is somehow known for it's good music. Just a misbegotten game all around.
I do have a specific nostalgia for the original PSP graphics in the interface, but that's about all it has going for it.

Can't say I agree on any of that, and I only started playing them about a year ago so I lack nostalgia for it. I've put 20+ hours into Remastered since Arise got announced. and gave the soundtrack without any effects a listen all the way through and I really couldn't put it down.

I thought the three levels had mediocre music and there's only the most basic multiplayer mode available but it's good
This demo feels pretty lackluster overall, but seems like it's only 5% of the game, so who knows about the actual game

The original backloads a lot of its best music besides Shinin' & Shake Ya Body. I hope the first track in the demo isn't the first track in Journey though because it does NOT have the energy Shinin' does.

I think Electronic Symphony has the better soundtrack/skins but it's been a while since I played it, and also doesn't have as many modes as the Remastered, which is pretty accessible and a great one to start with

I remember Lumines 2 tried to be a "MTV puzzle game" and was absolute shit. Tetris Effect style music works for the series. But the gameplay is too simple

The burst mechanic feels at odds with the + piece. They should either go back to Lumines 1 behaviour (need to make a 2x2 that contains the magic piece to get it to activate), or let us hold pieces.

It's going to be all Hydelics, so no. Probably going to be the worst part of the game; unless they have the usual frustrating array of achievements.
