Why are they so based?

Because they're Imps to soulless Demons, they will purged in the name of Prophets and Great Journey.

They're just Bungie paying homage to Marathon

Because they're just regular dudes with extra training instead of cybernetically enhanced super soldiers

1. look cool
2. have their own specialized gear
3. go on suicide missions

bungie tried to replicate them with their shitty spartan III's

That sounds gay and boring. I want to play as the cool guys with more interesting mechanics than CoD.

Marathon guy was a cyborg tho. If ODSTs were a homage, they would be homaging to the NPC Bobs who were still actually pretty effective in combat because of how hard the 44 magnum hits

let's you fetishize the US military without gross moral ambiguity

A soldier that is nicknamed a "Helljumper" with an incredibly low survival rate that is trained to his peak both tactically and physically is way more based than a lab rat cooked up into a super solider with a half a billion dollar suit of power armor.

>Because they're just regular dudes
This is a load of absoulte bullshit. If they were just "regular dudes" then they would be dead.

They're alright, I was always more of an Elite Spec Ops guy.

The Single Occupant Exo-atmospheric Insertion Vehicle has a 10% fatality rate per drop, but the Helljumpers keep doing it anyway.

>that mission in ODST where one of the pod hatches wouldn't open
>that one that gets stuck on a building with a huge drop to the ground
>that one that lands in the water
So if you survive entry, you still haven't even started your mission.

Even after surviving drop, ODST mission survival rates against the covenant tend to be low, and with no reliable extraction. They keep doing it anyway.

why couldn't we just get one stinkin novel about them in the Bungie era
