red dead redemption 2 ludonarrative dissonance
>option to save a guy who loudly proclaims he's a witness to the heist that has run you and your friends into another state
this is counter-intuitive to his goals in any context, arthur isn't even sick and remorseful yet... why would he ever save jimmy brooks instead of killing him? it's like if GTA IV gave you an option to spare vlad and let him leave town, the choice itself is nonsensical

I get that it's the game's intro to determinant honor choices, but it would have made more sense if you could either beat the big bar goon's head in and kill him or allow downes to pull you back (with - or + honor for either)

>Marriage? A sacred institution? Heh, it's anything but in my experience, brother, I can tell you that. If two fellers wanna tie the knot, who am I ta say no? If the Lord ain't judged our gang, I'd say he's been takin' some time off the job, yer probably safe. Heh heh. Have at it, I say.
>Abortion? Well, that's a rough one. Bit of a tough pill to swaller. At first, I didn't rightly take kindly to the idea of killin' babies, but Dutch gave me this ole thick science book and I pretty much surmised that well, that thing is about as human as Micah here, which is lackin' to say the least, heh. Hell, I'd say a gal has the right to choose.
>A gal? As president? Well, what I can tell ya is its been nothin' but fellers since this whole thing here started up and what have we got? A bunch of other dead fellers. What have we got ta lose? I reckon' tryin' a gal's touch wouldn't do anyone no harm. If weakness is a concern of yours, I promise you some of the ladies runnin' in my gang would probably make Old Hickory look like a nancy in comparison. Hell, I'd reckon its her turn.
>Lettin' a black feller do yer wife? Well, if the old lady's havin' fun, who am I to deny her that? I reckon that feller's got a bigger one than me anyway. Besides, we gotta pay some back for that whole slavery bid'ness we did to them. Dutch raised me and I ain't his real son, so I'll raise my wife's son, whether he's black or white.
>Cuttin off yer willie sure sound silly but I reckon a feller might as well chop it off he ain't goin use it. And i suppose a wig can't do harm neither, heck men use to wear em all the time back in them oldin' days.

>Arthur isn't even sick and remorseful yet
By choosing to spare Jimmy Brooks, the story is telegraphing to you that Arthur is already experiencing remorse. It isn't even the first time they do, either.
I hate to say it but you may be media illiterate, OP. If you wish to disprove these claims we'll need to see a timestamped image of your the back of your hand.

Doesn't that prove my point? Arthur would likely not save Jimmy Brooks here, he'd be a cunt pretty much up until he gets back from Guarma. In setting everybody acts like he's an asshole brute. After all, he is the go-to for breaking kneecaps for collections.

>>719130952
Remorse for what? If anything he would take pity on Jimmy Brooks, who is so helpless and retarded that he went over the cliff himself. I suppose that shows his capacity for kindness, not that he's already second-guessing his entire lifestyle. "I don't know" and "we shall see" in written reflection to every hare brained scheme their refugee gang cooks up is not exactly a damning impeachment of the path he's chosen.

So kill him. If you think Arthur should kill him then you kill him. Stay low honor for as long as you think he should be.

In rdr1 you get rewards depending on your honor.
Low honor gives you a unique horse, high honor you'll get a blowjob from a nun.

Hero characters have to have admirable characteristics. Being a bigot isn't an admirable characteristic, so no, hero characters won't be right-wing pussy cucks such as yourself ever again, sorry bro.

Turns out doing the right thing and fighting for those too weak to fight for themselves is incompatible with being a chud, oopsie woopsy

dutch is never seriously presented as anything but an antagonist to the player, even in the early chapters they play on the dramatic irony of him clearly being an incompetent blowhard steering them into fire
>we're all freezing to death in this cabin but we GOTTA sidetrack our escape to shoot a bunch of o driscolls and rob a train, STAY WITH ME
>we can't actually kill colm though, not yet, trust the plan... wait two more weeks so he can get really mad about us doing all that before we kill him, one last tweak on his nose

old games used to let you be as evil as you wanted, some RPGs would outright let you become Demon King or some equivalent. R* themselves used to revel in the fact their characters were villain protagonists, GTA 3 and Vice City never had the protags try and claim to be anything other than coldblooded murderers. Rockstar made Manhunt, for god's sake. a game where you play a serial killer graphically murdering people, the entire point of the game was to try and find all the gory and brutal ways you could kill people.

it looks like they're doing the opposite now by pandering to normie sensibilities with paint-by-numbers "emotional" arcs
GTA 6 is going to be fast and furious tier with all the tryhard camaraderie between the characters before they start bumping them off
