when I block they command grab my ass so I now jump away on reflect on the first hit blocked out of fear. one thing I'm still confused about is on when to hit the enemies because most of the time it just makes a deflecting noise (motorcycle dudes) or they just shrug my attacks and roll away (ninjas).

That's the better one. Block a lot and often, you can block even during recovery. Some enemies will try to approach and grab you so don't stay still too often, you'll learn. Shurikens can cancel recovery and are good at keeping enemies in check. Have a look through the movelists so you know what you have access to. Wind Path is very useful for repositioning and safety. Hold Y/Triangle to charge and absorb essence for a UT, if you do this when landing you start charging immediately. Dying is how you learn, don't mash too hard on the Continue screen.

NG4 plot leak:

This shot from the trailer is taken from the aftermath of the last time Yakumo and Ryu clash with eachother. Yakumo uses his special powers to defeat Ryu and is deciding whether to give Ryu the death blow or spare his life. The shot is Yakumo looking at the severely cut down and battered body of Ryu. Seori begs Yakumo that he shouldn't kill Ryu, because both the dragon ninja clan and raven clan are descendants of the dark dragon and both have their role to play. She reminds Yakumo that his objective is to kill the dark dragon and with Ryu Hayabusa defeated, he can proceed and fight the dark dragon without other forces trying to interrupt and stop him. Yakumo spares Ryu as he concludes that Ryu won't get in his way anymore and continues on.

During this game it will be revealed that the dark dragon is acting as a bullwark to prevent a greater evil from entering the human world and that the demons that were allowed to enter the human world with the advent of the dark dragon were meant as obstacles for the various ninja clans to overcome, so humanity could grow stronger and one day be ready to face what lies beyond. The dark dragon also bestowed powers to the various ninja clans. The DDO and Ryu believe that the best strategy is to keep the dark dragon in a prison seal indefinitely, Ryu literally has a line in the game in which he admits that he is afraid of what lies beyond the dark dragon and that he doesn't want to risk a devestation to humanity, while Yakumo and the Raven Clan believe that the Raven Clan is strong enough to once and for all kill the dark dragon and face whatever lies beyond and exterminate that and the source of the demons so that humanity can finally be free from it all.

Yakumo proceeds to kill the dark dragon and the game ends. The DLC sets up Yakumo and Ryu as the two masters who will have to face a greater evil. The DLC is an introduction to a follow up world for a potential Ninja Gaiden 5.

We've barely seen any of the story.
Personally, none of the pre-release marketing has won me over on him. He looks fun to play, but as a character I don't care about him at all and I think his design is stupid.
I haven't played the game yet though, maybe the story will actually be pretty good and do a nice job of developing Yakumo, maybe his character will be a bit deeper than how he's presented in the trailers so far. Maybe he will have a good character arc.
I dunno so I'm not making up my mind yet and already deciding before I've even played it.
I will make up my mind after like with Shartiola from Bayo 3.

Reading the latest information, it seems that Team Ninja contributed effectively in the decision making aspect. Apparantly Yakumo's Blood Raven was overpowered and Team Ninja told Platinum Games that this would ruin the essence of what Ninja Gaiden is, so Platinum Games had to rebalance it until Team Ninja was satisfied with it.

I think Ninja Gaiden 4 benefits from having both Platinum Games and Team Ninja involved, for some bizar reason Team Ninja didn't want to develope it on their own. The entire project came to life because two higher ups at Team Ninja and Platinum Games (who are friends) were discussing about making a project together. At some point Phil Spencer heard about it and approached them and gave them the funding and publishing they needed to start the project.
