What was the last game that gave you this feeling?

TotK. Had some bumps here and there, but the ending sequence is probably the best I've ever experienced. Extremely satisfying.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.
It doesn't pretend to be profoundly deep or give me a pearl of wisdom, it's just B-movie fun and unlike other ubislop games the pacing is just right, it doesn't overstay it's welcome.

Almost every open world slop where they clearly frontload the best parts. I can't think of any open world games including rpgs that have a satisfying and thrilling climax.

Library of Ruina. It was even worse for me because the "sequel" to the serie is a gacha.

BG3 did that for me. Before BG3 in no particular order.

Kotor
Dragon age origins
Deus ex
planescape torment
Neverwinter Nights 2
Kotor 2

Yeah mostly rpgs. When I was younger I would feel a sense of loss at the end, because I knew the second playthrough wouldn't feel the same. You already 'know' so you can't just get lost in the story, the world, the characters.

Deus ex when I was 10maybe 11, those schizo conspiracies got me. Then of course I grew older and it all came true which was nice.

There's also homeworld which stuck with me and how it presented its sorry with those black and white slides blew me away. Homeworld 3 is makes me feel sick, fuck whoever greenlight that garbage

Jesus Christ I almost forgot homeworld 3 existed. Imagine those artistically crafted stills with a story about the struggles of a PEOPLE to return home and instead you get lesbian giant women trying to find their mom, like what in the actual fuck

Castlevania 3. Most games made within the last 20 or so years overstay their welcome by like 10 hours. I remember even as a kid playing Wind Waker wishing for it to be fucking over already by the halfway point.

the talos principle, specifically the DLC ending
i finished playing 2 yesterday and really really liked it but the story is way too bombastic to get the same reaction out of me

Happened to me, when I was playing Rain World. Loved the game, but I had got so overfed with its bullshit, I just breezed through the final area, just to finish the game as soon as possible.
It had a great ending, in retrospect.

Similar thing happened to me but it felt right for the game. I had spent so much time going the wrong direction in the beginning that I accidentally found Filtration so when I got to the final stretch I knew immediately where I was supposed to go and had the world experience and confidence to get there quickly after 20 hours of glacial progress and aimless wandering. You don’t really know what the game is about or what your goal is until that moment and then it all hits at once. I didn’t actually see Sky Islands or Farm Arrays until my second playthrough.
