It's clear at this point that no other Japanese composer will ever top him, so why doesn't Square hire him back? Unless he's retired, his talent is going to waste as time continues to tick away.

I love Uematsu. But there's a large amount of composers just as good or better than him. Two of which are working at Square right now. And worked with him on earlier games.

Also, Uematsu is semi retired. He's had health problems since the late 90s. And this is why he worked on FF games less and less after FF9. Square didn't drop him like they did Sakaguchi. Uematsu just started working less.

1) All his post 90s music has been crap.
He was outstanding in the 90s but these days, Masashi Hamauzu (and others) are 100 times better.
2) Huge japanese publishers like suqare won't hire someone like him who does prog rock/fusion stuff anymore, because they're chasing the "global audience". (ie women and homosexuals).

Super Smash Bros' best main theme in the series is Brawl's. He composed that.

It was okay. But 1) Doesn't fit the tone of the game or with the other music. And 2) Was WAY overused in the game to the point of becoming annoying. With a half dozen remixes and being used on every menu screen. Just like To Zanarkand gets annoying in FFX for the same reason.

Uematsu's work has far more character than the sleek overproduced shit you find in contemporary games.

Games like FF13 and 14 suck. But the music is the one good thing about them. And you may not like them as much as Uematsu's works. But they can't really be called "sleek overproduced". Them imitating the styles of compsers like Stravinsky or Howard Shore, while also doing their own thing.

And realize, Uematsu did the same thing. He imitated stuff like The Never Ending Story, John Williams, Ennio Morricone and Joe Hisaishi all the time.

THIS GUY WAS NEVER EVER FUNNY. I am usually not one to complain but this guy’s jokes revolve around him being korean and only resurfaced because he was capitalizing on shitting on his wife on his shitty pod cast. MadTV was barely funny and they never hit the mark because they were a weird as fuck TV show to begin with. Not a good weird, like a howard stern sort of weird. I digress. This guy’s ginger friend makes more jokes than him on the podcast and it’s a real shame too because I thought the korean guy did actual stand up. Worst comedian/actor/fake podcaster ever

Soken is a fantastic producer with skill in a wide variety of genres, but you can really tell when he phones it in and relies on the leitmotifs to carry a song. I also feel like his recent work for 14 lacks a lot of the energy and dynamism it used to have circa HW, SB, and ShB.
