People who go by alternative pronouns tend to have gender dysphoria. I'm of the belief that Kris doesn't hate being a dude, but instead she hates being a girl because of the way girls are expected to act and how her body suddenly started cramping and bleeding and growing hair in weird places. It'd complement the game's theme about disliking change. It wouldn't fit as much if Kris were a boy since boys glide easily through puberty.
