I made it my mission in BF6 beta to shoot these everywhere all the time and then follow it up with 4 grenade shots from the assault secondaries.

Every time I went to that C chokepoint on that one European looking map I'd blow up that fire canister and then kill the walls.

It depends on what's inside the barrel, there have been tests if a spark or lit cigarette could ignite gasoline and it usually wasn't enough. Maybe if the barrel is filled with a substance that has a flash point lower than room temperature and you hitting the barrel with a melee weapon would damage it enough for it to rapidly build pressure and explode.

They're hilarious in Quasimorph. Shooting s single barrel near an enemy group often starts the chain reaction that ends with the entire floor on fire and full of demons.

WHY are there exploding barrels laying around, especially in military bases? Does the CO order young privates to install them at random places? What if they DON'T put exploding barrels all around the area? Will they get court martialed? Is it a war crime to NOT have them strategically placed where enemy soldiers can shoot them?
