The goal of the game, or The Hunter rather, is to "transcend the hunt" and this ending grants that. You also get the added benefit of turning into a cute little squidbob that gets manhandled by Not-Maria's smooth, wooden manhands.

If you do everything in the game, you killed a multitude of powerful beasts, Great Ones, and other foes including freeing one from an eternal nightmare and killing the creator of the Hunters Dream. After that the only place to go is up, becoming a Great One who is also capable of slaughtering other powerful ones. Maybe not Oedon but nobody knows what or where he is.

The old blood is derived from Great Ones and it already destroyed Loran and other places mentioned in game like what the Constable Set describes or Yamamuras. The plague as horrific as it sounds, isn’t limited to Yharnam. Sure they weren’t willingly giving it out but they did indirectly lead to Yharnams destruction. 99% of the people you meet turn into beasts, die or go insane.

Yharnam goes to shit as the great ones and their plane or w/e converges. You can argue that the events were set in motion by the church or mensis using too much blood/beckoning the great ones, but it's the direct intervention of the great ones and MP doing its shenanigans that completely upends the city. This isn't about morals, I'm saying the great ones are shown to be crazy powerful and you do not just turn into a harmless squid

It's the good ending. You just don't get to see the whole of it.

Lord only knows what will befall Yarnham after the squidified ex-hunter makes the next dream.

Anon... It's been 10 years since I last played so the game feels like a blur, save for the first time I saw the Frenzy status effect and wondered what it meant.

I thought it was Confusion or something and inverted controls so imagine my shock when my head exploded and I died. Launch week still had the 30-50 second long load times after death too.

Right, all I'm saying is that if you corner a beast, do you not expect it to bite? The Great Ones, insofar as anybody knows, always existed in the world, and made no discernible effort to sabotage the "seen" world until the latter's growing obsession with the former. Then you've got the third party Moon Presence who seems to hate his kin, for some reason. Presumably because he's actually Oedon, and blames them for Mergo's death, but who knows for sure?
It's basically a more long-winded, even more fucked up Godzilla parallel. The study and want to understand is not inherently bad, but when you take it too far and seek to control what won't be, you create tension, and eventually it breaks and everybody suffers.

What exactly allows one to become a "baby old one"? I guess what I'm asking is that it happening right after you kill the Moon Presence is a bit too coincidental for my taste. Aside from the connection between the sea and eldritch boys, shores and beaches are just cool. I had a professor who'd call them liminal spaces (before that was a thing), places where people used to believe the real and unreal would cross over. I know people pine for cut content because the grass is always greener but finding a beach with the "real" Moon Presence would've been such a better end to the chalice dungeons.

There's only one good ending and it's the one where Gherman executes you and you wake up in the "real" Yharnam, devoid of your memories of all the horrors you've witnessed and gone through. But also, yes and no. Gerhman says you can use the doll for comforts, so she has some kind of soft parts, somewhere.

But if you take the Old God ending, there's no limit to what you can do, theoretically. Moon Presence could create and shape the dream, and you were able to overpower him as a human. Perhaps you use your squiddy powers turn her into a real woman, a clone of Maria, a new person, a different dream, or just make an army of porcelain maids to serve your every godly whim.

I think the philosophical implications, to start, are obvious, given what I said previously, but I think there's more to find in the dream than meet the eye.
