you didn't like thane charging at a man with a sword? tons of these 2006-2013 games had horrible cutscene choreography. I just finished replaying metal gear 4 and god the cutscenes are so hard to watch.

It's one of the many egregious cutscenes in this game. I was fine with Thane dying, it was inevitable knowing his illness. Yet the way this fight is choreographed is so stupid. I get it Thane is an assassin proficient in combat. But why would you go up against a guy with a sword bare handed? Not only that you have a gun and biotics, why not build some distance at least?

I just finished a play through of the games recently and for some reason the swords in general annoyed me a lot more. I was fine with the omni blades since they look cool and they needed an excuse for heavy melee. But if they exist why would anyone use a "normal" sword over one you don't have to carry and is arguably better?

Also playing as an adept it annoyed me how Shepard never used biotics in cutscenes.

Technically, it doesn't. As of May, Bioware Edmonton, the real Bioware, got turned into an EA work hub. A real, physical Bioware studio doesn't exist. Anyone working for an EA RPG title could be named a Bioware employee, at any time, because Bioware is the label that EA gives to their RPG developers, whether they are in India, Egypt, or Venezuela.

What I really disliked was that "dramatic" stare-down between Shepard and Kai Leng where you're forced to just watch him fly away when my vanguard Shepard could've easily biotic tackled his ass into the next star system.

It was made by the ME3 multiplayer team, not the normal Bioware "A-Team" who were busy spinning their wheels with no direction over Anthem. And you can really tell since the gameplay with the right abilities was pretty surprisingly decent, but everything else was barren and vapid.
