I get all that. All I'm saying is the GameCube couldn't sell even at a really good price point and despite the fact it could prove more performant than the PS2 which dominated the market.
That said, effects looked phenomenal on the PS2. Sometimes I go back and boot up my PS2 just to ogle at the way the fog moves and layers.
The PS1 -> PS2 pipeline was very strong, and like you said the thing played DVDs.
What confuses me more is the Wii mania that followed. In the moment back then it felt obvious that everyone desperately wanted a Wii, but going back to it I find myself weirdly disappointed with the games. Almost exclusively use it to play GameCube.
