Depends of the setting but even for dudes I usually prefer some skimpy armor. Full-on plate armor is so cheesy, man.
Unless it's clothing. I like nice furnished clothing but the more you go towards combat gear the less realistic it has to be, for me.

Anyways I think the issue is most games now are either realistic or its too much fantasy and not enough medieval.
So the medieval aesthetic is being lost while the japanese one got expanded.
Even Fire Emblem kinda went that route all with Houses artist was chosen due to wanting a more modern tren and then Engage with their casual clothes.
Need more medieval and less fantasy.
