Then the vast majority of pilots you've encountered are of the 9/10 former infantry-only shitters who've learned flying out of pure spite and in public lobbies in which they rarely ever face competent vehicle players. The number of, as you put it: air sissies, who approach targets horizontally while flying jets or wasting range while flying helis is actually disgusting. Worse yet are their infantry-only brethren who still suck at countering them...
Take BF3/4 for example: any good pilot will approach you from the direction of the sun (it's impossible to see a jet in the sun, unless already spotted) and open up from directly above you and turn before you've got the chance to move and get the angle (if he didn't get a critical hit by that point anyway). Especially a BF4 attack jet has an easy time killing unsupported AAs -- you can get two JDAM hits at range and finish off with a strafing run. Likewise any competent heli duo will just TOW and TV you, any good pilot may even finish you off with Zunis at long range, too. From BF1 onwards you have even less chances at solo'ing AA against good pilots, because the ttk is much lower. In general the rule holds: the #1 counter to pilots are pilots, the #2 counter is teamplay.
I can't speak about 2042 other than hearsay from friends, I've not touched thar dumpster fire, but I'd imagine rule holds. I know that infantry gets TV missles in 2042, so I'd imagine that teamplay in a 128 lobby may turn any air gameplay into a challenge, even in public matches.
