i have a superpower where if I see a game i don't like I simply play something else instead. since there's dozens of great indie games every year there's no shortage, especially since I'm not locked into only playing the ultra-mainstream stuff.
the superpower does not extend to this thread for some reason

I have only played one remake and it was good. I did try Rebirth, so I guess that makes two, but I refunded it. The others have been just texture rereleases so I haven't bought them.

So all in all, I've only spent money on a good remake. It's a net win. I'm not fatigued.

I don't know a single (1) fucking game in the last ~10 years that is worth getting hyped about or trying, not even worthy getting pirated. And this is coming from someone who enjoys multiple genres and plethora of games played, I remember getting excited about a game release every week, banger after banger. Making your own game and replaying classics is the only solution.

yes but I never wanted remakes in the first place. I can count the number of remakes I've bought on less than one hand. Even as a kid I felt stupid buying Pokemon FireRed when I'd already played Blue.

The worst part is that they've brainwashed the goycattle now into wanting remakes instead of actual new games, which is such a terrible state for an artistic medium.

Remakes are a cheat and I hate how effective it is. These hacks could never make a successful original IP, so they just use work laid out for them by old devs. For some unknown reason, only a few select people see it as such.

they censor nudity because americans are prudes, and to lower age ratings, it's been done since forever. When it's for the non-existent modern audience, they swap genders, make the 3d models uglier, add pronouns and all that bullshit.

It depends.
If it's some shitty remake that barely changes anything like the SMRPG one, yes.
If it's a game that changes a fuckton, like the Romancing SaGa 2 remake, then it's fine, it's pretty good even.
I would prefer no remakes but I can accept some of them. Unfortunately, these more high-effort ones are the minority these days.

Yeah, set in around the Spyro remastered trilogy. It's always the same old tired arguments and I really don't understand the appeal. Although one thing I do like about remakes is that it draws my attention to a new series. If a series is getting a remake, that means the old games were probably good so I'll completely ignore the remake and check out the originals.

Haven't been watching the indie scene much this year since I've been knee-deep in my emulation backlog, so my list is pretty bare but it always is before I start really looking. That's what separates the shitposters from the true game enjoyers, you know. That's why you struggle and I thrive.

Anyway since we're in August, here's 16 games. Proportional to the 24-games-in-a-year you want.
>Beyond Citadel
>Heroes of Hammerwatch II
>The Roottrees Are Dead
>Metal Bringer
>Look Outside
>Twilight Monk
>AI LIMIT
>Blue Prince
>Bionic Bay
>Out Of Hands
>Despelote
>Metro Gravity
>Super10Pin
>Y2Roll
>Mashina
>Öoo
Be sure to play some games you missed from 2024, 2023, 2022, etc. Your next favorite game is buried in here somewhere, and it would be a tragedy if you never played it merely because it wasn't given a $100m advertising budget.

>are graphics that much of a turn off for people?
For many yes, although from a logistical standpoint, I would've been very content with visuals capping out somewhere between gen 6 and 7
>what the fuck does "modernized" even mean anymore?
That strikes me as subjective. To me, it means it adheres to current trends, which in today's gaming sphere, means
>Movie games
>Open world games
>Face/ motion capture and hyper realistic aesthetics
>Online shit including but not limited to: subscriptions, gaas, and gachas
And much more unsavory practices and trends that have become popular for some reason
>who waits (and buys) for a remake of a game you can literally play right now?
I'll play an original until a remake comes out, but that might be something with a generational cutoff; I doubt zoomers would bother playing a game that came out before they were born when they can just play whatever shit studios pinch out these days

>fixed
They usually don't fix gameplay issues or glitches from the original though, generally remakes are more buggy. The only time I can think of where that happened was the change to the Iron Boots in Ocarina of Time.
I think they want to update it to make it less controversial, because they don't want to take the heat from the different pressure groups by offending one of them. So they have to take out anything sexy and anything that could be interpreted as racism or implied racism.
If they made a remake of VTMB, they'd probably take out the item description on the estrogen pils that says "Only take if female" because they don't want to offend professional victims. They'd probably take out some of the dialogue options rejecting the gay characters in the game because it could be interpreted as homophobia.
Like Maria in the Silent Hill 2 remake, I don't think they de-sexed her to piss people off. I think they did it because if they didn't, there would be a million articles of how offensive it is towards women, the male gaze, a deranged lunatic suicide bombing their offices, etc.

I agree the good games don't come from AAA anymore, but you should tone down your smug. I know there are some great indie games, but your personal list falls apart if you don't want to play roguelites. Or pay over 10 dollars for a simplistic, short game that doesn't attract you in any way.

If you want to help me, post great indie RPGs/strategy games that aren't roguelite.

Good one. Those are some of the hardest and riskiest genres to make if both quality and length are a requirement - because 'small dev plz understand'.
Personally, I got good mileage out of Infested Planet. Anons seem fond of Troubleshooter. And if high-effort mods could even count as indies, we might as well include stuff like Archolos.
