I never got into this game, what do I miss out on? I hate platformers. People say it's as good as Super Metroid, but I don't see it.

>Anon shocked when a sizable portion of the audience gets hyped.
Does Anon think that there wasn't an increase playercount of Silent Hill 2 before the remake dropped? Or does he only think this because there was no chart to look at?

nope castlevania also plays nothing like metroid.

Metroidvania, twitchy combat and platforming gameplay after a while, good art, good lore. Huge map.

Nothing really mind-blowing, though the execution makes it a good game. It all comes together rather nicely.

/v/ is so contrarian that a huge game with good gameplay, lore, art, and progression sold for $20 is "meh I prefer CoD". Which really tells you all about the IQ of the average /v/tard

How? They were not doing anything for years. They released the game and a small fanatic fanbase kept spamming autistic no hit challenges. There was legit 0 input from the devs.

i wonder how many people force themselves to play it right now, but can't say anything because is the type of game everyone praises and you get the fluoride stare when you say it wasn't that good, bet 90% of the shills never finished it to begin with

In an attention economy the rich get richer, the poor stay poor.
It starts with a good number of wishlists, there are well documented thresholds which control how much Steam promotes your game. If a game is successful, it is more likely to be talked about and shared and become more successful entirely organically. A hidden gem is much more likely to stay that way because it takes exponentially more effort to introduce it into the broader zeitgeist.

Building an audience implies effort. Someone like Path of exile built an audience, by releasing expansions that were good every year for years. That is building.
Shitting out a gold brick and then vanishing into the aether is not building. Its a runaway success you had little to no input in.

True, this has been obvious for a loooong time, since old youtube or streaming platform. Hell, there is a reason why botting views is an industry in itself.

isn't this game in fucking 2d? who the fuck plays 2d games? we got 3d in the early 90s why are you playing games in two dimensions 30 years later? is it an iq thing where you can't navigate three dimensions if your iq is less than 130?

you mean when it released to critical and public acclaim?
When it sold half a mil copies at launch?
Or when it reached 15 million lifetime sales sold earlier this year, more than the original Mass Effect trilogy combined?

The critical acclaim only came later, there were only two mainstream reviews of it in it's year of release
