How is the current state of the game?
I've been a day 1 player and stopped around May due to how EOMM influenced Competitive.
Is it any better? is it still fun?

I still enjoy it, but im a quick play only. I never fuck with competitive in anything. In my experience, it all feels the same anyway. And speaking of that, yes. Sometimes the matchmaking feels like its feeding you into a fucking grinder, but honestly I dont know of a game that doesnt do that lately. The only thing that Rivals does that others might not do is run you through an obvious bot match after forcing you on a loss streak.

quickplay is quite possibly the worst 'casual' experience ive had in any game
ranked also sucks because of how easy it is to rank WITH NEGATIVE WINRATE
if you play with friends and get matched against enemies of similar skill, it's somewhat fun

Why the hate for comp? Granted, I only ever go up to gold for the seasonal rewards. I often find comp to be a more pleasant experience than QP, because in comp players on my team are actually trying to win (most of the time). In QP you get 4 Duelist instalock ever other game, and retarded Strategists thinking they're flankers, and all that stuff.
Sure, it's just a game, and we're all here to have fun. But I generally find winning to be more fun than losing.

Unfortunately I've seen absolute retard picks happen in comp as well. Its even more infuriating when it happens there. Especially in the "gold and below" bracket, because thats where a bunch of casuals that clicked it as an alternative to QP or because they want the skin.

They say it doesn't use "eomm". But that doesnt mean that it doesnt use something functionally identical to eomm. Their PR speak means nothing to me. He might as well tell me that QP doesnt give you bot matches, but I'd wager he will simply just never addressed that one.

it looks like total shit now. it hasn't improved at all. they added 2 characters nobody cares about and its still the same couple of shit maps. new game modes that are garbage and nobody wants. even the battle pass is lack luster with skins nobody wants.

As long as you play nothing but quickplay and instantly lock into whoever you FEEL like playing, ignoring all bitching from your teammates about what the team needs, you can have fun. You might not win, but if you enjoy playing as a certain character then you can enjoy the game.
Make sure you have all voice and text chat turned off, of course

I took a break to play other shooters, and now I don't wanna to go back. Blade sucks, the player base seems to have gotten worse, and the shooting in the game was never good compared to other games. The only thing this game has going for it is the Marvel characters and now they want to start adding OCs.

Comp is literally just averaging a team's rank and trying to match stacks, there's barely any matchmaking going on at all. If you think a ladder is going to ever give you an even match you're completely retarded.
Quick Play is SBMM.

I nearly dropped the game with 2.5's god awful flier meta but thankfully it seems that giving Thing anti-air options and tuning Storm back down got things back under control. It's still fun to me despite my favorite characters being constantly nerfed for no reason.
