To be honest, Metal Gear as a series never really appealed to me so I've never bothered playing them. I know it's popular though so it being that low is a bit of a surprise. I'm gonna guess it being a remake has something to do with it.

Metal Gear Solid's supposed popularity always felt a bit fake to me, I played 3 and 4 and the gameplay was alright but the writing, which everyone seemingly praises, was nothing special, easily mogged by the likes of Deus Ex, Planescape Torment or even TES lore.

Im usually not someone who uses this criticism point but this remake is unironically soulless
It modernized the graphics but forgets to port over the atmosphere and the charm of the original
imo this one of the few remakes that is unironically a downgrade from the original

MGS series is one of my favorite bits of media, but I've no interest in this remake. It looks worse, and probably plays worse too. There's a nice port of MGS3 already on Steam for £15, just get that.

It’s not that the writing is next level genius. 50% of it is expo dumps but its presentation of the story was incredibly advanced for the time. Look at the cutscene direction for MGS1/2/3 and then look at the cutscenes from other game that came out at the time and its night and day. The cutscene presentation is STILL above everything else today.

Most story games now just have you slowly walk foward while someone monologues to you as this is considered more "immersive" than a cutscene.

Even cutscene heavy games like David Cage slop don't have any real cinematogpraphy either. Its all shot-reverse shot over and over and over.

The MGS games have legit creative cinematography. I don't of any other games that match them in that department.

Konami doesn't understand how big Kojima really was.

MOST people who played MGS3 back on the PS2 to the end will instantly become a loyal fan of Kojima. And out of respect for him, they will not buy MGS Delta. That's how much of a impact he made. That's how good MGS3 was.

Getting rid of Kojima on bad terms was the worst mistake they could make. He was basically Konami's superstar. People will remember what Konami did to him.

You just had to be there, man. You could say the same thing about San Andreas or Pokemon Red and Blue, and you'd be right. But the hype was absolutely real, people really did go nuts over these games and love them with a passion. This isn't the fake kind of Influencer created hype that we get now, there was no viral marketing campaigns. These were actual great games that people were excited to play.
