"Being an in-bred American".
They are brainwashed to thing about EVERYTHING in black and white, binary manner.
Gameplay is peak until you know what you like, then you start seeking out the aesthetic elements within the frameworks you've settled upon. Gameplay is still a guiding factor, but it stops being an end-all, be-all and more of a functional up front filter.

gameplay comes first then story then graphics then music
Fun gameplay can carry a game with a dumb story but if you have a game with a good story that's held back by shitty gameplay then you'll just feel like it's a chore to play it
looks are important because it's what you'll be looking at 100% of the time
music is good to have but not even necessary
Atmosphere > OST > gameplay > grafix
I'm right. Gameplay doesn't matter that much as long as it gets the broad strokes right. A metroidvania is a metroidvania at the end of the day, one might be 10% worse or 5% better than another gameplaywise. However atmosphere, setting, and music are never forgotten and set your game apart even with a gameplay disadvantage. Blasphemous 1 vs 2 is the perfect example of this. B1 is worse mechanically but almost everyone agrees it's superior. Simply because the artistry is better.
