CF -> VW -> AM -> SS

Crimson Flower first is important not from a narrative standpoint, but for the gameplay. It's an unfinished route. If a player does any other route before CF, then they will be incredibly disappointed and drop the game completely. CF works entirely on ignorance of the other routes because the play doesn't know how much better the other routes are, and also may believe Edelgard's lies about basically everything, especially Nemesis.

Verdant Wind and Silver Snow share so many maps it would be stupid to play them back to back. VW should be played before SS because VW offers so much backstory to Fodlan. It's an important history lesson and answers many questions about the setting, which props up the next two routes when playing them.

Azure Moon is a "traditional" FE route, but it does very little to explain the Nabateans and the Agarthans. The scope of Dimitri's backstory isn't fully realized without experiencing CF and VW prior to it.

Silver Snow is a proper finale to playing 3H because it's objectively the best route. Playing SS last means you have a full understanding of where Fodlan has been, where it currently is during the game, and where it needs to go. You, as Byleth, have come to understand just how absolutely fucked the future will be if you trust Fodlan's fate to any of your students. You're the God-Queen and the Reincarnation of the Goddess, so you have both a divine right and a divine obligation to seize control of both the continent and the Church and bring humanity out of the darkness and into the radiance of enlightenment.

Three Houses actually has a lot of appeal with its world building and characters, a lot more gripping. It actually brings me back to it but the gameplay and monastery tear any dreamy eyed notions out of me quick smart.
Now Conquest? That's GOOD gameplay but I DO not care for number crunching and tile counting. I'm too coddled by modern QoL starting with 3H.

She still does, though, quite frequently. Like you could just give her a couple tonics instead and you'd have a comparable effect to all that grinding. I always found the water grind kinda silly. You don't need the characters to be wholly moral or wholly justified. Dimitri is my favorite lord. He is incredibly unstable and he abandons his people in the name of revenge .I only like Dimitri because I know his story but IRL I wouldn't want the guy screaming at ghosts to be king because he's nice once you get to know him. The only thing the story has to do is make them consistent and let each character remain true to their internal logic even if that logic is wrong. That's why I bitch at CF more than any other route, not because the premise of the game is bad.

Yeah, if you know what you're doing in the Monastery. Mostly it's planting stat booster plants and going for the right certifications on people like Brigand, Archer and Armor Knight that will help you a lot, so it's around the point that you're certifying level 10 classes that things start letting up. Once you get skills like Death Blow and Hit +20 your units start feeling good. Some Paralogues early for people that have an easy time reaching B Authority for the stronger Battalions can also be a big powerspike, on top of the extra EXP you get from it, though a lot of them are hard and you ideally want to save them for when you can do 3 battles at a time at A+.

Hunting by Daybreak is not fucking hard. It only has the potential to be difficult on Maddening and if you're playing on Maddening, then you 99% have already played the game before and know it's coming. You have the entirety of White Clouds to prepare for it. The only time it can ever be hard is if it catches you unaware on your first playthrough and 99% of people played Hard or lower their first time which means you can just brute force it.

I wouldn't say it is the worst, but it is aggressively mediocre as a video game. What people liked about it tend to be the characters. The gameplay itself is... serviceable at best (the actual tactical gameplay) and tedious at worst (the shitty raising sim elements). The story is even frequently called out as being a shitty way to actually use the fucking characters lmao, as fans of one character tend to always hate how that character acts in certain routes. People literally -just- like 3houses characters. Even if intsys understands that, I genuinely don't believe that they can make a game that appeals to 3houses fans again because as it turns out, 3houses fans are primarily not fire emblem fans, but 3houses fans. I'm pretty sure anything but a sequel to 3houses will disappoint them, but intsys will be set on winning them over by copying elements of 3houses for the rest of time.
I don't look forward to every single goddamn game in the series from here on out having tedious raising sim elements getting in the way of the gameplay.

Not really. Dimitri's personal skill upgrades to Faerghus Lineage + after the timeskip. At full health, Dimitri gets +15 avoid. If you train Dimitri in flying, you can give him Alert Stance, which also gives him +15 avoid if you wait. Forest tiles give +30 avoid if memory serves. So just by existing, Dimitri can have +60 avoid not counting his natural avoid. This already makes him difficult to hit for NPCs even on Maddening but the important bit is to make sure Byleth is an Assassin or a Trickster. I typically do Trickster, I just like it better. But Stealth makes enemies ignore Byleth if another unit is available. Another perk of the Blue Lions is that someone decided it was fair for the Lions to get the Kingdom Archers on chapter 4, which grants Counterattack. So now Dimitri can solo most of the NPCs while Byleth can play harrier and pick off the outsiders while being safe until reinforcements come

Canto makes you best units better as they can reposition after attacking to thin attack the optimal combination of enemies during enemy phase. It's good on healers for obvious reasons but once they become attackers through promotion you can do the same with them. Engage loves spamming enemies at you so the sooner you can thin them out the better
