I still wish Gangway Monsters got a US release. Was an interesting concept for a game.

>now remember
Literally the pinnacle of the PS1 era. I spent hundreds of fucking hours playing CTR, Tony Hawk, and Coolboarders. I don't think I had the blue disc, or if I did, I never played it. I did have a handful of other demo discs that I spent a lot of time playing. I remember demos of Intelligent Qube, Tomb Raider 2, Parappa, and Armored Core.

I think publishers got scared at one point that people playing the game in advance, especially an even more unifinished early revision, would hurt the sales more than it helps.
There is no reason that a new console, wouldn't ship with a bunch of demos pre-installed.
Pre-builts do it, laptops do it, phones do it, Windows does it.
You could even ask money from publishers, just to be included.

Need Help:

there was one ps1 demo disc that had this game where it you played as this athlete/gladiator and you had to get points by getting gems or something but the gameplay was that you were in a room and it had hazards and you could spin the room to prevent other players from scoring and set yourself up to score. Anyone know what I'm taking about?

No the problem is nobody puts out demos anymore because games are shit now and letting people try them is a a sales hazard rather than an opportunity to attract potential sales by offering a sample.

My fav one is indie devs who put out a demo, get feedback on said demo (usually a case of "shit is rough yo, I would like to see xyz improvements....") and their response is;
>demo is like, 8 months behind the early access version so ignored
IF YOU ARE PUTTING UP A DEMO TO CONVINCE PEOPLE TO BUY THE GAME WHY ARE YOU MAKING IT THE SHITTIEST EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE?!

I mean in the case of Crash's demo, that WAS the best it had to offer.
Independent developers generally don't understand what a vertical slice is and how important it is to pick out key things to show off about your game.

I had the CTR disk. That disk introduce me to some great hits. Don't know how, don't know why but I'd play that 1 map in Tony Hawk Pro Skater like it was the end of times. Ape Escape blew me away. My PS1 came with analog controllers but I barely used the analog for games since it was optional but thanks to that game I fully learned to get accustom to analog controls. Crash Team Racing is another game I spent hours on 1 map, it was that fun.

Lastly Final Fantasy 8, this demo would introduce me to the Final Fantasy series that I'd soon to know and love. The FF8 demo made no fucking since though. I don't think the Junction system was in it so you could barely make it through the demo and the robot boss that chases you out that one town had a ridiculous amount of HP. I don't think I ever beat it in the demo. Also for some reason you had party members in events where they aren't weren't suppose to be.

It'd be later in my 20's by the time I played FF8. Just seeing and looking back how different the game originally was was really neat.

Also Nintendo Power had some contest and I won my N64 console + Diddy Kong Racing. Doritos had some contest giving away 360s, I failed to win it but got a HDTV (worth twice the MSRP of a 360)
