His main goal was very clearly to save Aline and Alicia, with him being able to die being the byproduct. Renoir showing them whatโ€™s happening to Aline in the real world is the moment that cements his decision.

>because he just really really wants to die (his actual ending is good but it's a by-product of his existential crisis
The only way the game could've been more explicit about this not being the case is if they literally stopped the scene during his ending and he looked at the camera and said "I am doing this to put an end to this vicious cycle of grief my original and by extension myself and this canvas that is destroying the lives of the family the original me died trying to protect, and who I feel compelled to grant the same priority over myself on account of me being created as a literal replacement for the son who sacrificed himself and was both savior and unintentional destroyer of, having his whole memories and everything."

People like you are exactly why I fell like Verso is entirely justified in just never even bothering trying to be upfront about his motivations because some motherfuckers are just dense and can't understand anything more complex than "kill bad guy, save good guy"

People that really want to hate either Alicia or Verso will put any argument first through the filter of "does this aid me in hating the character?" and maybe, a few hours later, through the filter of "was that true?"
>>719172293
Aline is as real a mom as he can have given that he was painted born and raised. He's an accurate recreation of the real verso who felt the need to give his own life to save Alicia so caring for Alicia is also not a big surprise.

The problem is that Dessendres are shitty worthless people who are unfit for godly powers that they have and definitely not worth saving. If there was an ending where all their souls get imprisoned to maintain the world they've forced into existence in perpetuity, it would have been the only morally correct ending.

The only story for such game that I can see after this one, is a game where you play as a writer going through a list of painters and throwing molotovs into their windows to fully stop them from doing things like they were doing in e33.

The war, and the existence of painters will probably be the connective tissue linking all the stories together (since Clair Obscur is a painting term), but theyโ€™re going to have to be careful with how they write the next game, because they canโ€™t use the existence of painted worlds as a plot twist anymore.

Besides having two drastically different endings would cause problems with that. And trying to merge them into "actually Maelle ending Maelle got out of the painting" or "actually Verso ending Maelle lost it and made a new painting trying to copy Lumiere" would just ruin both endings.

If it WAS going to become an anthology series, what elements should carry over between games? If it were up to me Iโ€™d say:

>Chroma
>Luminas and Pictos
>references to Esquie (since the existence of a plushie implies that he exists in some form beyond the canvas)
>maybe Francois as a recurring joke boss similar to Gilgamesh

Apart from that, Iโ€™m not sure. I donโ€™t think you could do the Nevrons again, since those are Cleaโ€™s creations.
