Some of them, but there's autistic people like that in every fanbase, for me the real motive for the downfall was konami doing one last shit in the bowl with survive and dipped to make shit pachiko and mobile cash grab.
At the same time Kojima was hypped the fuck up with death stranding, when that shit came out and it got scrutinized by the internet, it also killed his reputation.

Now, a decade later Konami comes back like nothing ever happened, thinking that the franchises that they destroyed still have the mainstream midia power that id had 10 years ago.
Same happened to Kojima, after DS1 everyone was into what he was doing it, now DS2 flopped hard.

Metal gear needs Kojima and Kojima needs Metal gear, the problem being, there's no hype anymore, they're both in the gutter.

Every mainline MGS game was a system seller, and MGSV is the most profitable non-gacha title in Konami's catalog.

MGS4 sold seven million copies as an early title on the worst performing console of that generation.
At the time of release, it was the second fastest selling game in general on the PS3, only beaten by GTAIV. It sold a million in Europe along in just one week, and 300K on day one in Japan. At the time, it would've placed 50th in Famitsu's fastest selling games list, which had been tracked for over a decade by that point. Japanese stats also stated that, at the time, 1 in 5 PS3 owners had a copy of MGS4.
